Hello,

I noticed a big issue when enabling Adaptive Vsync option in the Nvidia Control Panel for GTA V. Really wondering if this is something at my end.

Steps to reproduce issue
1. Set Vsync to "Adaptive" for gta5.exe in the Nvidia Control Panel
2. Launch GTA V
3. Go into Graphics settings, change the MSAA setting to any option (for example to 8x)
4. Hit apply (Space bar or click on the Apply button below)

GTA V will freeze for a while and then crash to the Desktop in my case. Social Club will say that GTA V exited unexpectedly. It doesn't matter if I have set Vsync in-game OFF or ON.

Things I tried
- Verify integrity of game files
- Launch Steam as admin
- Not having any software in the background
- Deleting the settings.cfg file
- Using GTA V's safe mode and changing MSAA from there
- Disabling any Steam overlay
- Clean install of Windows

My PC specs
Gigabyte 1070 Windforce OC with 398.36 WHQL
CPU i5-8600K (not OC'ed)
16GB RAM
Neoforza SSD SATA3 256 GB
Windows 10 Pro x64

Anyone else who can reproduce this problem?

So this problem in gta5 only happens if you use adaptive sync?

Thats a weird issue and antialiasing method (msaa or others) should have nothing to do with it. Though ive never tried forcing adaptive sync through Nvidia so wouldn't know.

Whats the reason for using adaptive sync? Have you tried fast sync?

Maybe leave vsync to application control and Gta5 sync set to half.

Have you tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers after using DDU in safemode?

Yes, it happens when using adaptive vsync. What's fast sync? I like the adaptive one because I hate it when it jumps to 30 fps when it's just below 60 fps.
I have done clean install of Windows and it doesn't help.

Perhaps it's a general bug. Could you try and test this out?

Possibly a bug, ill test it now. Let you know shortly with results + ill include driver version and Windows version.

As an alternative work around, try Nvidia Inspector

Use the fps limiter and set to 59 and enable vsync on ingame leaving NvidiaCP to application control. Your fps shouldn't drop to half and you'll have no input lag either with vsync. This trick usually works with other games.

Haven't played GTA5 for a bit just went through that 'i'm not a bot' process at login lol

ok, so i set gta5.exe to use adaptive (had to turn off gsync for that option to popup)

I went into game and set Vsync to on and changed msaa setting and hit apply. I got a message saying to keep settings or it'll revert. Do you get this message?

I tried it with Vsync off, same thing with the message. It Didn't freeze.

Running Windows 7 and Nvidia driver 391.35

---

Side note, reason i haven't remained on an updated driver is because 397xx drivers gave me issues. Games ran fine, actually a bit better than 391.35 driver but after exiting any game, for some reason the whole desktop would be choppy and slow. 391.35 was fine however for Win7. Haven't tried the newest 398 driver though, maybe one day.

Systems specs

2600k 4.5
P8P67 Delux
16GB ram
SSD
1080Ti

Yeah, I tried Nvidia Inspector without any result. Regarding the 59 fps limiter, if the game goes below 59 fps, it would not jump to 30 fps?

Thanks a lot for testing this. The "Keep settings or revert" screen does not pop up for me. Instead GTA V will freeze and then crash to the Desktop.

I just heard from someone else not having this problem, he also has Win7.

Perhaps anyone with Win10 can verify this bug?

Your best bet is to ask in Steam GTA5 forum you'll get loads of testers there.

Try reinstall latest drivers using ddu first, before making that post just in case its a once off. Ddu: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Install ddu first in normal windows and run it in safemode and wipe all Nvidia drivers. Boot to normal Windows then proceed to install driver.

If it happens again do try 391.35 driver.
