Hi, so i have been having this problem for a while now and have finally worked out that it has something to do with resolution. Here is the problem - When playing GTA V at 1080p maxed out my GPU usage is only around 50-60% ( http://gyazo.com/7dd71395073f442982692b22ede6f649 ) or less sometimes however if i change that resolution from 1080p to 4K (I use a 4k monitor, but prefer to play at 1080p) i get full 95-100% gpu usage. but i cannot play like this due to 25-30fps, (Also if i lower settings at 4k GPU usage goes down with them) i would like to play at 1080p maxed out at 60fps with GPU usage at 100%,which is totally doable on my System. Yes i am using the latest drivers as seen in the screenshot above and no CPU is not a bottleneck as at 4k maxed out i get 100% gpu usage.

Any help would be appreciated

Many Thanks
Marv

CPU is not faster enough, so at 1080p, the GPU is waiting for the CPU to catch up. At 4K the GPU is working flat out because it has a lot more work to do (more pixels to generate), relative to the CPU (similar workload to 1080p). CPU is the bottleneck in the system at 1080p, but at 4K the GPU is the bottleneck.

Its not a CPU bottleneck as at 4k maxed out i get 100% gpu usage - also at 1080p maxed out with 50% gpu usage i get like 37fps however if i drop the settings my gpu usage also drops so even at minimum settings at 1080p i get like 35fps and 30% gpu usage 🙁

If this is the case why when i play BF4 Maxed out at 1080p do i get 100% gpu usage all the time? and same in other games

It is due to the poorly ported game engine. In that one game it puts outrageous load on the CPU, which is slowing down everything. If you were to read the article you would see it explained in great detail. A TITAN X won't go over 40FPS on max settings with your CPU. You can deny it all you like but we would have to lie to you to be in agreement. It is well documented and detailed. You are not having a problem as your hardware is performing exactly as expected.

I know that the 8350 is an old CPU and hardly holds against the I5's but its not normally a bottleneck in my system as in every other game i can get 100% gpu usage.

Because GTA 5 is optimised in a way that requires a good CPU. It has a fairly high CPU load compared to most games, lots of physics, AI movements and other player calculations etc to work out on the CPU. The GPU side of it is less demanding as the lighting effects, shadows etc are not that advanced for a modern game.

I use a i5 4670K @ 4.5 GHz and my CPU sits at 100% all the time and the GPUs fluctuate between 60-90% (680 SLI, 5840x1080 res, 60-80 fps).

However my CPU is not at 100% when play GTA meaning that it cannot be a bottleneck?? - il load up GTA now and screenshot my task manager and settings

no, even if cpu usage is at 20% it can be the bottleneck, (back when i had my fx 8350 it was bottlenecking swtor like crazy with only 24% usage)it depends on what part of the cpu is being used more and for gaming it's mostly fpu, the percentage of cpu usage means nothing for bottle necking, that being said have you disabled vsync, it's bugged like shit, with it on i was getting random drops down to 30, now with it off lovest drop was 55, mostly sitting at around 65-70fps with all max, high textures, msaa and txaa are off, advanced graphics only the distance slider is at around 30% rest are of

AMD doesn't do well with new games. You're bottle necked by CPU. This doesn't mean your CPU is running at 100%, it just means the CPU isn't handing out instructions to the GPU fast enough. Increasing your clock speed will help, but there's limitations within the FX architecture resulting from it being an old platform at this point.

Actually per http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2428094 that is part normal for Very High Settings IF you were using a i7 EE. As your using JUST THE RECOMMENDED CPU, then your performance (FPS) will be less out of the GPU. While you could REDUCE POPULATION and also DISTANCE DRAWING to improve FPS, ultimately if you wish to play better, you will need to replace your GPU to one (as shown in the chart) that performs BETTER than 50/60FPS, as your FX8 is much less powerful then a i7EE so those scores would drop 20+FPS in your system in comparision.
