Its probably a driver problem, rockstar optimized the game for 1 gtx 980, u can disable SLI and play with one card so you get better frames if thats the case, but until nvidia releashes new drivers for GTA V you will have to play with 1 Gpu only,

I have the same problem , a bit lower PC specs but still good enough to run the game on high/v.high but I end up with 40-55 fps. Do you have installed latest drivers ?

This does seem odd to me. I'm running an O/C i7 930 and one GTX 970 and have about the same result in GTA V. I'm perfectly happy with that but I'd expect much better from your rig. The only thing I've got you beat on is the amount of RAM. I have 12 GB.

My friend with 2 x 980's is getting well above 60 with rare dips...

He maxed out the game with 2 x msaa...

If the skip is using 8 x msaa in both places that could be the problem...

What mr91 said, and also the game is not optimized to use both SLI cards, I have

Mobo: MSI Z97-Gaming 7
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro Series
Monitor: BenQ GL2760H Black 27" 2ms
GPU: (2) EVGA 04G-P4-2974-KR GeForce GTX 970 4GB ACX 2.0 OC Edition in SLI
Keyboard: RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth Edition Gaming Elite
Mouse: Logitech G602 Wireless
Headset: Astro A50s
Thermal Paste: Antec Formula 7
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K OC'ed @ 4.0 GHz
CPU Cooler: CORSAIR Hydro Series H105
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB
HDD: Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1600MHz
PSU: CORSAIR CX series CX750

I still get around 50-70 FPS. HOWEVER if you look at a GPU monitor, only about 20-40% of the cards are being used, this is extremely inefficient. As we could be pushing a lot more into the game.

I also get around 50-70 FPS on my SLI 970's with GPU usage never going above 60% and often hanging around 30%, I can't even run the game comfortably on the recommended settings

yup, it's a combination of the nvidia driver / game coding

Well on the bright side, most people cannot tell 60 fps from 120fps, so if you get around 60, you're pretty golden. At least you know with optimizations it can only get better :p

who told you that?

FPS GAMES WILL SHINE WITH 120 HZ MONITORS THAT HAVE LOW INPUT LAG...

EVERY GAMER I KNOW CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE...
