Hey, I am currently running the game with all settings on high and am getting fps values bouncing between 40 and 60, even dropping to the 20-30 range when driving. My current rig has a Ryzen 5 1600 overclocked to 4Ghz, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a Zotac AMP! Extreme GTX 1070. I am not sure why these FPS values are so low considering my build. Can anyone suggest anything I can try to increase performance??

I'm listing some basic solutions. The HDD being slow is the most probable one, as you described getting FPS drops specifically while driving.

Basic Solutions:

1. If GTA5 is installed on an HDD (hard disk drive), reduce extended distance scaling and frame scaling mode, as it loads heavy textures from the hard disk and the speed isn't enough, so your FPS are dropped.

2. Defrag your HDD or create a separate 75 GB Partition for GTA 5 only. This will significantly speed up loading times and FPS drops while driving, as a part of the HDD will be separately used for GTA5 and won't have too much fragmentation.

3. GTA 5 has a weird thing with graphics. Evenly changing graphics that refresh the entire screen increase/decrease FPS by almost...

3. GTA 5 has a weird thing with graphics. Evenly changing graphics that refresh the entire screen increase/decrease FPS by almost half. ALWAYS use Nvidia PCSS/AMD CHS/Softer/Sharp shadows and don't use more than 4x MSAA. Soft and Softest shadows drop FPS extremely and 8x MSAA is unnecessarily heavy.

4. Try pressing Alt+enter while playing. See if Windowed mode has more FPS.

If these solutions don't work, describe ALL your graphics settings.
