GTS 250 = 9800GTX+?

I've just read on the front page that the new Nvidia GTS250 is pretty much a 9800GTX+ repackaged and with 1gb of ram, as all the other specs match up does this mean that you could SLi a 9800GTX+ with a GTS250, if so would it make a better combination than two 9800GTX+s in SLi.

I ask this becuase I've got a 9800GTX+ and considering going into SLi when I rebuild my machine. Anyone got any insight into this or is it too early to tell?

Thanks.

What I mean is the GTS250 is pretty much a repackaged 9800GTX+, does that mean you could SLi the two of them together?

However I'm glad to hear that the 9800GTX+ SLis well, good to know I'm headed in the right diretion with it.

hmm good point. and thinking about it, it wouldn't have any benefits anyway, if the GTS200 would shrink it's ram to match the 9800GTX+ so it'd make no difference. Oh well nice thought and it'd make for an interesting experiment at the least.

LOLL i dont know about it.

ASK nvidia if a SLIing a 9800GTX+ and a GTX250 is working. Maybe they will answer you that "its a new card and its not going too" but maybe it can work ... ASK Nvidia anyway, if they dont answer you shortly ... ask GOOGLE ;) and is google cant ... TRY IT !

ok from NVIDIA !

Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?
While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes. Instructions to enable this feature can be found here.

Can I mix and match graphics cards?
In order to provide optimal symmetric scaling, SLI technology requires the NVIDIA GPUs to match. For example, a GeForce 7800 GTX must be paired with another GeForce 7800 GTX. Likewise, a GeForce 6600 GT must be paired with another GeForce 6600 GT. However, using the latest Release 80 or later graphics drivers, NVIDIA GPUs sold by different manufacturers can be used together in an SLI configuration. For example, a GeForce 7800 GT from vendor ABC can be matched with a GeForce 7800 GT from vendor XYZ.

Can I mix and match graphics cards is one of them is overclocked by the manufacturer?
Yes. A GeForce 7800 GTX that is overclocked (for example BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC) can be mixed with a standard clocked GeForce 7800 GTX.

Why not buy another 9800gtx+ its not like you'll see an increase in performance. The GTS 250 is the same as the 9800gtx+ with a different bios.

i doubt about this 100FPS, full filter, with a GTX260. @1024x768 ill trust you ! i get those kind of stats with my SLI GTX+. you cant with a single GTX260 @1650x1080

I play CODwaw MAXED@ 1650x1080, full filter and i get like 80-90 fps avg.

Just some fyi on the 9800gtx+ and gts 250.... these cards are extraordinarily similar, so much in fact that i took my BFG 9800gtx+ 512mb and downloaded a generic gts 250 bios and flashed my 9800 with it and viola! I now have a gts 250! Now I know this seems like a rather ballsy move but I was very desperate because I kept getting the nvlddmkm.sys error and I had tried everything to get rid of it (Im waiting for the new Radeon 5870 to come out  ). After the bios flash I have not had one error and my computer is running great!!!!

My System:
Phenom 2 940 @ 3.4ghz
Zerotherm Zen CPU cooler
Asus M4a79 Deluxe w/790fx & Sb 750
4 gigabytes OCZ Reaper HPC ed. 1066
BFG 9800gtx+ 512 (now gts 250 512 :D )
Corsair TXS 750 watt PSU
Logitech Z-2300 THX certified speakers
Samsung 2233sw 1080p monitor
NZXT Tempest Case

I did the same as what you did with my Asus 9800GTX+, after I flashed it, it said it was successful. But it won't boot up with a screen, I know it booted into window but nothing shows up on the screen.

Luckily my card was still under warranty, I Called Asus told them my card stop working and they sent me a new one.

Moral of the story: Not all cards are able to be flash to GTS 250. :fou:

Hmmmm, well I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work for you :( , my main reason for posting this was to help anyone that was in the same situation I was and is attempting this only as a last resort. Bios updates are only reccomended if you are having ussues with your card to the point that games are unplayable (which was my situation with nvlddmkm.sys :pfff: ). This did work for me on my bfg card (not one bsod since :sol: ), one thing I would like to ask though is what bios did you flash to and was it generic?

i started getting the same error message occasionally after i switch to a 1080p LCD panel with the use of an HDMI cable. but i managed to live with it if i get that episode. a simple reboot is all it takes.
