GTS 250 VS 5770

I know this has been asked like 999999 times but which one is better its a tight budget and i am replacing my 5570

the GTS 250 is kind of slower or faster then 5770 < i dont know Please correct
and it is cheaper 137 USD/207 NZD and im considering buying this one i will not be playing those
"Newly Released" games i will do games back one year or so because i cant afford them -_-


The 5770 has DX11 and uses less power but its much more expensive (183 USD/275 NZD) and since im in NZ you can see the price difference so should i save up for the 5770 or go with the GTS 250?

I am also in NZ, and know the difficulties of buying hardware.

if you can afford it though, i would definitely recommend the 5770. its certainly more powerful, as well as cooler and quieter. Dx11 support WILL be a big deal, its just a matter of time.

5770, cooler, consumes a bit less electricity, should last a bit longer (DX11 and all).

Though if you really couldn't afford it, the GTS250 isn't really a slouch.

The 5770 is worth getting if you can afford it, it competes with the GTX260, so is notably better than the GTS250 in terms of performance. Then add the fact it is new technology and it is a clear winner. Especially as you already have a 5570 so are already using new tech, going to a GTS250 would be a step backwards while getting a performance boost.

What you need to look at is the performance for price. Yes the GTS250 is $50 cheaper than the 5770, but it is a weaker card and older.

Although, while recommending the 5770, I need to ask what resolution you play at as this makes a difference. At less than 1920 x 1080, even the 5570 copes with everything except crysis (with high quality settings but no AA). So, if playing on less than that reso I would probably keep what you have and keep saving

No, as long as you are not using AA, the 5570 copes surprisingly well with games at high quality below 1920 x 1080 (if you consider 30fps the playable standard).
Given that the OP apparently plays older games there should be some decent life in that card.

@ that resolution the performance gains of the 5770 are not worth your money. I would look @ the HD 5670 which is significantly cheaper than the aforementioned cards, runs very cool, quite, low power consumptions and does not even require extra power like the others do. Checking the benchmarks @ 1280x1024 you can get Crysis to do 65 frames per second on average (30fps is min standard, most LCDs do not even refresh the screen above 60 fps i.e., 60hz). So you can safely assume other less demanding games will run at even higher fps (they do i checked).

To summarize save your money buy the 5670 the only difference the other cards will make, in your case ,is in your pocket book ($$$)

Ok i went after I posted and saw you system specs & noticed its a very new build, you couldn't have had that setup for more than couple months. The 5570 should work just fine at the resolution you play at, what are you expecting to get out of a more expensive card?

BTW you can't do crossfire/sli with your setup as you motherboard only is a micro atx with only one PCI E 2.0 slot.

How much is the HD5750 or HD4850? Those cards along with the GTS 250 should be great for your resolution. The HD5770 would be nice of course but really isn't necessary unless you are going to upgrade the monitor at some time in the not too distant future.

Not sure what the prices that you can get in NZ but the 4850 is a steal here in the US for about $100 usd & has performance comparable to the 5750. The 4850 is listed on Toms hardware best card (price/performance) for under $100. They are limited supplies out FYI and will not last long as this series is discontinued.

cant even get 4 series cards here anymore CK, and when you find them they are expensive.

to the OP, Ive replied to the PM you sent me. check out that site and grab a 5750. cheaper than a 5770 but will perform well at your resolution.
