Would this combination be good for 1080p gaming in recent AAA titles at 60 fps on decent quality settings?

**Oh boy. I just realized you swapped out the 1050Ti for the 1060. I thought you were just encouraging him to save his money and get the i3 instead. So yes, i3-6100 + GTX 1060 would be a better performing setup than the i5-6500 + GTX 1050 Ti for the same price. **

That's 1060 territory, if Nvidia is your choice. The 1050 Ti is a budget card, a high end budget card but still a budget card. This means you'll have to give up something in performance with AAA titles at 1080p. No one would buy 1060s if 1050 Tis could do as well. Of course it also depends what you mean by 'decent settings'.

Actually i3 6100+GTX 1060 is a good option.
But In CPU intensive games the i3 will hold back a ton of power.
But if you want to go with i5 6500 GTX 1050 ti it will be better in all titles as there will never be bottlenecks bw the i5
And even the i5 can support till GTX 1080 without any problem.
If you choose i5 GTX 1050 ti then it will be better for all games. Save a bit of money for the GTX 1060 if you can!!
