I was running a VGA and DVI-D monitor with my Nvidia GTX 650. Recently I upgraded my video card to the GTX 1050 TI by evga. I figured I should be able to adapt the HDMI to VGA seeing as the GTX 1050TI has no VGA support. I bought one of these to adapt the output. When I plug in the adapter the display appears for a few minutes but then I hear the ejected hardware sound and both monitors go black without losing power and reset, the VGA one first. Ive tried the adapter and monitor on another computer with a 1070 and it does the same thing. The DVI-D monitor works flawlessly by itself and the VGA monitor was working on my GTX 650 moments before I tried it with the adapter. My question is, is this adapter faulty or simply insufficient? Do I need one with a power source or did I just lose the silicone lottery?

You need an Active adapter now for the 1000 series and up.
