[SOLVED] GTX 1050 ti vs RX 550 on 300w power supply

I'm planning to upgrade a fairly old HP Pavilion PC's GT640 graphics card to basically the best card I can get for this machine. It's running on a 300w PSU and I'm confused as to if either of these cards (GTX 1050 or RX 550) will be able to run on that. The 550 is stated as needing 50w of power, which is lower than the 65w the current GT 640 draws, but is recommended to be run on a 400w PSU - will 300w still be sufficient?

Also, I've read on some forums now that even the much more powerful 1050ti, drawing 75w of power, could run on a 300w PSU. Is that true or will I just waste my money trying to get something better than the 550?

Some GTX1050ti cards are factory overclocked and need an aux 6 pin power.
You do not want one of those.
Otherwise a GTX1050ti should run ok.
