GTX 1050Ti or GTX 980m For A Gaming Laotop?

I'm looking at some budget gaming laptops that are not more than $1,200. I am debating between getting one with a 1050Ti or a 980M.

I know the 980M is a last-gen card, but it's also a bit more powerful than a 1050Ti (assuming I can find a laptop with one) But, the 1050Ti is more up-to-date in 2018 and will be able to play mre triple A games that come out in the next few years.

Ans no, I don't want a 1060, because I don't want to overpower my desktop. Sorry :/

You don't want a laptop with a 1060, even if cheaper than a laptop with a 1050ti, because it will be better than your desktop? But the 980m would be ok, because it would be better than the 1050ti, but not better than your desktop? Trying to understand your logic, its not making much sense.

I have a 980m gtx . it runs everything well. but it does run hot. if its a light laptop go 1050. its a big one 980.

Well I don't want a cheap one. I want a bit of quality in a laptop because I would also use it as a daily laptop.

I saw the Acer Predator Helios 300 but I don't like it much, even though it has a 1060. And same for the Inspiron 15 7000 gaming.
