I've had screen tearing in Chrome for a while now, and I'm not sure if it's due to updating a secondary monitor. Here's my spec info from Speccy64: http://i.imgur.com/ge8dCQl.png

I've tried enabling/disabling hardware acceleration. I've tried changing to adaptive sync, changing to a high performance mode for Chrome-only, disabled/enabled Aero, none of these have worked. I can't watch video in Chrome without there being a huge obvious screen teared 'box' in the bottom left corner. What steps should I take to resolve this? TIA

Hi, You might want to try going to start>services.msc>Desktop Window Manager Session Manager. If it's not started, start it. If it's started, disable and then restart it.

I had the same problem as you. Tried out all the options (enabling/disabling hardware acceleration, VSynch, triple buffer etc) but without success. I also tried selecting an Aero theme - but again, to no avail.

But by starting Desktop Window Manager Session Manager, and then selecting an Aero theme, I somehow managed to stop the screen tearing. YouTube videos on Chrome (and every other browser for that matter) are now wonderfully tear-free.

I'm a complete technophobe, and so have no idea why this worked for me. But what seems to be happening is that starting Desktop Window Manager Session Manager triggers something in Aero that is not visibly missing when you first try selecting Aero. So you think you've selected the fully functioning Aero, and are disappointed when, despite that, the screen tearing is still there. It's only the combination of a running Desktop Window Manager Session Manager and an Aero theme that seems to work.

I hope that makes sense - and fingers crossed, perhaps it'll work for you too.

Doesn't make a difference on my machine. Tried different cables and everything, I still get the same issue. Would it be a good idea to install 7 on a different partition on my SSD, install the base of my machine and see if tearing still happens? I think it's probably a software issue at this point and I'm not sure what else I can do.

Sorry to hear it hasn't worked for you. That's disappointing, as I know how frustrating it is not to be able to resolve this issue.

Being a technophobe, I really couldn't opine on the question of installing Windows 7. That's something on which the experts here would have to advise. I do hope you manage to find a fix soon.
