[SOLVED] GTX 1060 6GB OC vs 1660 Ti

I want to setup one of my rigs to produce 144 Hz on a g-sync enabled free-sync panel.

specs
i7-5820k / 16 GB RAM / Intel 660p 512 GB / EVGA P2 850 / AOC G2590FX

main game
Overwatch: 1080p / ultra / dynamic reflections medium

GPU's available to me
980 Ti's x 4
1050 Ti x 2

Problem: Enabling g-sync on a free sync panel requires either a Pascal or Turing architecture GPU. The 1050 Ti's are Pascal based but not powerful enough for 144 Hz on my game settings. The 980 Ti's are more than powerful enough but are Maxwell based, and therefore g-sync won't become enabled on this panel.

GTX 1060 6GB vs GTX 1660 Ti +20% performance

Question:
Should I buy the 1060 6GB and overclock it ($200), or wait and purchase the AIB overclocked 1660 Ti ($280 rumored price)?

Solution
While G-sync enabled is an option, if you're looking for a card in ~1060 class, why not just opt for a 580 and use Free-Sync?

They can be had as low as ~$170, new.

With free games, and you'll get the full benefit of FreeSync, opposed to the "compatible" nature with GSycn? There are still some issues, while "compatible" is top of the heap (IIRC), they still for short of the 'true' GSync experience.

I have one of the Zotac GDDR5X cards and have it OC'd quite nicely (memory handles a +1000 OC without effort), though Barty has a very valid question. Though if my memory serves, don't touch that card. Powercolor has recently had some quality issues. Used to be great back when I had my 7870 Tahiti from them. But now I'd look elsewhere.

Look at the options for Sapphire, ASUS or XFX. If you go with a 1060, the Zotac I mentioned, EVGA (dual fan only), MSI and ASUS tend to be good options. I wouldn't wait for a 1660Ti. Only speculation and minimal gains as well as time waiting going on there.
