GTX 1060 6GB or GTX 780ti (in SLI)

Hi y'all,

I'm deciding which GPU to put in my future config.

As you read from the title i'd like to put either a 1060 6GB or 2 780ti.

I'm intersted in those 2 options because a nex GTX 1060 costs around 300$ and I usually see on eBay used 780ti for 150$ (each).

The only 2 things i'm concerned are:

-The HUGE power consumption difference;
-If the 2 780ti will be bottlenecked by a Intel i5 6400 (that i've unluckly and already bought).

The main thing i'd like to know is (OBVIOUSLY) the performance difference.

P.S: Other infos you might be intersted in are that i've got 16 GB of RAM and i'm still looking for a a MOBO (depending on the choice of the GPUs).

i'd get the gtx 1060 6gb all day every day regardless of any performance difference. the performance difference will be different per-game as not all games do SLI well if at all. and you have to ask yourself, do you really want to mess with dual GPUs that are 3.5 years old now? it's going to be a huge power-sucking hassle if you ask me.

I'd personally go with the 1060 6GB over the 780ti in a single card configuration. Its newer tech and more efficient at everything it does. Tom's has them on the same level in performance, but the extra memory and efficiency can be beneficial. It can't SLI however. (it has to be a 1070 or higher)

The 780ti probably won't get bottlenecked to badly with the i5-6400 though, at least not noticeably any worse than the 1060. With SLI involved, you can only go with the 780ti for SLI between the two.

Between the 780ti and a 1080, price says go with the 1080, one will outperform a 780ti AND be cheaper. Two 1080s will leave the 780 so far behind, even in 2xSLI, when games play nice with SLI (just a heads up: SLI won't work for VR.) Even the MSRP for the just came out today GTX-1080ti is lower than most of the "new" prices of the 780ti. (availability may make it just as expensive, if not more though.)

this is so confusing. he's talking about a single 1060 6gb vs dual 780tis. the 1060 is obviously faster than a single 780ti. the 1060 vs two 780tis...i just dont know but i'd suspect the dual cards to be a bit faster in any game you can get them to both work with. i still wouldnt care to deal with the dual cards though.

as far as the 1080 (i dunno why we brought that up; wasn't an option to begin with) of course it's going to be faster than a single used 780ti but it WILL NOT be cheaper. i'm going to assume you didn't mean what you typed. but just for clarification. no it won't be cheaper.

still, go with the single, newer card.

A source not on PCPartPicker, or a USED part may be cheaper, granted... but it still stands... the 1080 is cheaper using PCPartPicker as a trusted source.

that doesn't matter. its all moot because he's talking about a used card from ebay. not a brand new card that hasnt been in production for 3 years and is being stored in a warehouse somewhere. but you do bring up a good point that you also can't trust buying one from ebay, necessarily. although if you buy one from someone with a good ebayrating you don't have a whole lot to worry about.

Point noted... and I missed the eBay reference in the original post.... which leads to another reason to go for the 1060... warranty.
