GTX 1060 6GB or RX 480 8GB

I know there are lot of answers out there, but I am still confused. I am supposed to buy a card today but I don't know which one to get.What do I need is a GPU that would last for long but I want to play the current games too. I am not much of a game buyer because I don't earn yet. I won't be able to crossfire(for 480). I want a one time investment ( I may upgrade from i5 to i7 in future). So please suggest. I have 2 options either a EVGA GTX 1060 SC(26K) or Sapphire RX480 Nitro(22K), Please recommend any other aftermarket if you seem they are better.
I do only gaming and I am fine with gaming at 1080p 60fps.

HP Pavilion 500-220in
I5 4570
Memphis - S
520W Seasonic S211 PSU
8GB RAM

RX 480 8GB will be almost as fast in DX11 games and just as fast or faster in newer DX12 titles. If it's cheaper, it stands out as the clear choice to me. If you're only playing games at 1080p then you could consider the 4GB model if you need to save some money, but the extra 4GB of VRAM might come in handy a couple years down the road.

Thank you for your reply chemmajorp53. But a lot of games are running well in DX11 for GTX 1060 rather than 480. I am not contradicting what you said though.But you are sure about it that Ill be able to run games like Mafia 3, AC Syndicate at 60 fps on ultra .

Mafia 3 is a terribly optimized game at the moment, you need a GTX 1080 to get 60fps average at the highest settings which is nuts. For AC Syndicate you'll get more FPS out of the 1060 but both are playable.

Okay if you say its RX480 then tell me is sapphire nitro good or some other after market. I wont crossfire it. Ill buy 8GB and a single GPU will be enough right for 1080p ? Again thank you for replying.

Sapphire is good, just get whatever is cheapest between Sapphire, XFX, and MSI; those are the best AMD brands in my opinion, but it's pretty hard to go wrong unless you try overclocking on something with only one fan. I'd avoid Gigabyte for the 480, their cooling is subpar this generation according to most reviews. It REALLY doesn't matter that much between the 1060 and 480, you'll be happy with either card. I just think the RX 480 might have a little more longevity, AMD tends to optimize drivers for their cards longer and more DX12 titles will be coming out soon. Really it's just a coin toss.

What about using EVGA 1060 SC to over clock can it beat RX 480? I have seen it. But still unsure about what exactly to buy. Even 1060 has DX 12.1 support. I have to decide till evening. I get pretty confused, even if I buy 1060 will it support future DX 12 games with good fps? Some DX12 games run good on 1060 too.
