so for xmas i got a 1060 6gb GPU freaking awesome! my old GPU has been loosing frames so this is great!

So i unplugged my GTX 770 and it two connectors i kept one out front since the 1060 i got needs a 6 pin connector so i installed the new card but when i go to boot the system the fans on the GPU will spin for 2 seconds then cut out. like it lost power.

So i was thinking maybe i shorted it somewhere so i turned off the PC and hooked back up my 770 and it worked perfectly with the same connectors started right up no issue. So i tried a second time with the 1060 except this time the 1060 fans didn't even spin i checked every connection again and the fans spun again for 2 seconds and i checked the system it wasn't even reading the card.

Is this a faulty card or am i doing something wrong?

Solution
That's a dead simple card, the fans not spinning after the initial spin up isn't worrying, they shouldn't spin till it gets warm .

But windows not detecting the card, that's a problem. Have you tried uninstalling with DDU and then having it power off, installing the new card and seeing what happens? You can aloe try another slot and you should update the BIOS on the mobo if you have not.

I doubt this will work, but it's free to try. Sounds more like a bummed card.
