GTX 1060 - Benefits of MSI afterburner without overclocking?

So I've just purchased the 'MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X PLUS 9Gbps'... mouthful.

I've never overclocked before and don't really want to, ideally want this card to last for as long as possible.

Are there any benefits to performance or cooling that I can get from using something like MSI afterburner even if I'm not going to overclock?

Is it better to just set a fan curve rather than not having any software and letting the GPU handle itself? What would this fan curve look like for this card?

Any other optimizations that doesn't involve overclocking?

Yes there are reasons to use MSI Afterburner other than overclocking, here's a few I can think of:

-Custom Fan Curve/Profile
-On-Screen Display (Hardware monitoring)

well I guess that's it. But those are two great things that work well. Setting your own fan curve is only necessary if you aren't getting the temps you desire. Usually the fan doesn't even come on until the GPU reaches 60C. That can be annoying to some people because if the cooler is good enough, it will kick on and then kick off while hovering around 59-61C. So you could set it to come on at 40C or 50C instead to have it stay on all the time while in use.
