I am looking for a new monitor and preferably 1440p, 144hz, 24 inch. So I've come across the Dell s2417dg - http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-24-gaming-monitor-s2417dg/apd/210-aizs/monitors-monitor-accessories.

Mostly for playing games like League of Legends and sometimes GTA V. Otherwise internet surfing, watching movies etc.

Will it run smoothly or is that GPU not enough? I like everything to look nice and go smoothly (games/movies). I don't need everything to be on ultrasettings however. Also, I see this monitor as an investment for future builds/upgrades.

27" might be too much for you but 1440 will be quite tiny looking on a 24".

Can always lower the resolution though

1060 is more a 1080p card but gsync will help smoothing out playback between 30 to 165fps
Gsync will play a big roll in making your gaming experience smooth as possible but don't expect to reach optimal Hz with a 1060. Could maybe reach 165fps with a 1080ti on medium settings witj these generation of gpus.

Like you said, a monitor is an investment and you have set yourself up for whats to come in future.

In a year or two if you upgrade the gpu, you can replay older favorites at a higher frame rate that aren't as high presently.

Thanks for reply. For me, everything over 24 is too much. But the biggest concern is whether the PC will run smoothly or not with that new monitor.

Other specs worth mentioning:
MB: ASUS Prime Z370-P
CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
RAM: 16GB DDR4

In LoL a 1060 can give you 200 frames per sec and even at 1440p, GTA V will run on 60 fps @ 1080p. It depends on the game. E sport tiltes will benefit from a high refresh rate monitor, AAA titles will only reach 60 frames or less.
G-Sync at 1080 works, you can always downscale from 1440!

Investing more money on monitor is always good even if your current pc can not push that high fps.
Going cheap on monitor is among the common worst decisions made.

hmmm..1060 can run quite well for 1440p monitor, on most games you can have over 60fps with some settings turned down (resolution, details, aliasing, etc.). 1060 is not the best for 1440p 144/165hz monitor but it is not bad either.
I would get 1070ti/1080 or 1080ti (if it was not due to the price) for 1440p 144/165hz.
1060 6gb is about equal to 970-980, I ran 1440p 144hz (XB270HU) with a 970 2 years ago, I moved to 2x970s then 1080 just because I wanna increase the settings.
