I ordered a compact single-fan GTX 1060 and it just arrived. I just installed it and the fans were spinning, I put the power connecter in it and everything. Everything looked fine but it wasn't detecting it when I turned it on, and I tried a few things but nothing seemed to work.

Solution
You need to look for these cables from your PSU, and make sure you are connecting the right cable which is PCI-E. How many power connectors does your GPU require ?

Ah that did it, switched the cables and it worked. Thanks!

Also I have an ASRock 970 Extreme3 motherboard and an FX-8300.

What's the make and Model number of your power supply/PSU ? Did you connect the correct PCI-E cable to the GPU ?

Do you have the latest system BIOS installed on this PC ?
My PSU is a Corsair CX600M, And I'm not sure which PCI-E cable goes into it.
Also I haven't checked/updated the BIOS since I bought the PC a year and a half ago.
