Looking into getting a GTX 1060, and want to make sure it's the right purchase. Currently running on a 1080p monitor, but looking at 4k upscaling options. I have a quad core CPU running at 3.8Ghz, and a motherboard that only supports PCIe 2.0. (Asus M5A99X EVO revision 2.0). Basically wanting to run recent and new game releases at high settings with 60 fps, with resolution upscaling maybe. My question(s) is this; would the PCIe 2.0 x16 limitation of the motherboard cause a noticeable impact on game performance? And would a GTX 1060 be a good choice for this?

Solution

it will when you are expecting gtx 1060 performance numbers

that cpu is slow, and will bottleneck terribly in a lot of games

keep that in mind

good thing you are upgrading soon

I'll need a Mobo / CPU overhaul sometime down the line, which I plan to carry the 1060 over along with, but for now I was initially incorrect about CPU speeds. its an AMD FX 4350 overclocked to 4.5 GHz max. Hasn't given me any problems (yet).
