Building a pc with a budet is hard enough, but now the problem is that when the Gtx 1060 and the Rx 480 was tested in directx 12 the Rx 480 had the upperhand but in the current directx 11 applications Gtx 1060 beat the Rx 480, My question is for a person like me who is on a budget which gpu should i get and why?:pt1cable: maybe a year later will the whole story change?:??:

Solution
My take on this is that the performance difference between both is insignificant even in DX12, go with whatever other features you like, for example the 1060 runs much cooler and quieter, for me that is a huge deciding factor when buying a GPU even before performance, Nvidia software is superior, things like Shadowplay, game streaming, Geforce experience and game optimization.

For the next year or two where most games will still come in DX11 the 1060 will be superior and by the time DX12 becomes the standard much better cards will be in the market and either the 480 or 1060 will be obsolete by then.

If you can get the RX480 significantly cheaper than the 1060 then go for it, otherwise if prices are the same i would go with the 1060...

Also if you are the type of person who would use Crossfire in the future by adding another card then you have no option but to go with the 480 since the 1060 does not support SLI but most people just upgrade the GPU instead of adding another one.

this decision can not be made entirely based on performance, look at the whole picture and consider all other factors.

Go with the RX 480 AiB, they run cooler. The GTX 1060 reference cooler has a slightly larger fan and pushes more air so ref vs ref the GTX 1060 is about 2 to 4 C cooler ( remember AMD Cards handle heat better than Nvidia cards )But with aftermarket cooling the RX 480 and GTX 1060 are with in 1 to 2 C of each other with AMD winning some times and Nvidia winning other times depending on which benchmarks you read. Most games that will be coming out near the end of this year will support DX12/Vulcan and AMD tends to win 90% of the time in DX12 games. Also the RX 480 will only get better when developers learn how to fully use async compute, Nvidia will not as their cards can not do async compute and they are just faking it with software.

RX 480 is future proof the GTX 1060 is not

SO if you want a Nvidia card i would wait till they figure out how to build a card that can do Async compute at the Hardware level or go with the RX 480 and have peace of mind that 6 months from now you will be seeing big gains in performance as game devs get more comfortable with programming and using async to it's full potential.

Ignore energy consumption because you would have to run the RX 480 at full load for almost a solid year to cost you $20 more in your energy bill. Who leaves their PC running 24/7 at full load? no one lol.

Well both GTX 1060 and RX 480 are excellent higher-mid range cards. RX 480 do have a upper hand especially the 8GB variant. Also RX 480 has better support for Vulkan and DX12. My recommendation is to go for 8GB Radeon RX 480.
