Hello Internet,

Here's an odd question—which setup is better for video editing in Resolve: two GTX 670s (4GB versions) or one GTX 1060 (either 3GB or 6GB version). I currently have a 670 in my system which is just too slow for 4K editing and I am looking for a cost effective upgrade. I could get a second GTX 670 4GB on eBay for ~$100 or I could shell out ~$200 for the new 1060. Which do y'all think would be superior for my work.

Thanks for your input!

BTW my other specs include an i7-3930K, Gigabyte X79-UP4 board, 750W Corsair PSU, and several SSDs.

Solution
Resolve is far more GPU dependent, The more power the better. Radeon 480 has a slight edge over the 1060 and is generally cheaper: See link dual 670's won't compare to the newer GPUs for this application.

I would go AMD 480 or Geforce 1070 if you can swing it.

1060 6GB. You get newer architecture, less power consumption, and better performance. Memory compression, CUDA acceleration, etc. are all better on Pascal.

However, for 4K video, I would recommend an even more powerful GPU. If I were you, I would sell the 670 and spend some more on a GTX 1070.

Hmmm that's a good one, Im running 4 670 superclock+ in a 3way setup with the other card running 3 monitors for autocad 2016 and it holds up better then my 980 superclock.

I guess it all depends on the software and how it uses the cards. I guess you could always pick up a second 670 and see how it does. If it doesn't work you could turn around and sell both of them and get a 1060 off what you sold the cards for.
