My budget is around $900 to $1000, so should I get a gtx 1060 with a i5 8400, or should I cheap out on the processor a bit and get a gtx 1070? Or does anyone think there are any better combos I could go for.
I know it kinda depends on the games that I will play, but I’m also getting a 144hz monitor and thought a gtx 1070 would be much better.
Thanks.

Solution
If you went with only 8GB system RAM (not exactly recommended, but possible) then you could maybe fit the GTX 1070 with the i5-8400.,

But still, motherboards that supports 8th generation processor are a bit pricier than those that support older generations.

No, no they aren't. Not since Intel released the H310 and B360 motherboards.

Anyways, let’s get into the question. Is it worth it? Or should I stay with the gtx 1060 and i5 8400.

The build is pretty good, but I totally forgot about shipping...
Since I live in the UAE shipping is bad, and when I say bad I mean REALLY BAD!
Like, for me to ship the NZXT s340 I need to pay an extra $130...
I might just have to go with the gtx 1060 and i5 8400 which will cost me around $1100 here in the UAE.
Thanks everyone for the help anyways.

Considering that an i3-8100 outperforms an i5-7400 and costs about $60 less, there's not really any good reason to go with a previous generation Core processor at this point for a new system. Coffee Lake adds two more cores at each price level, and the prices of the older processors haven't really dropped much to compensate. If you decide that you really need a less expensive quad-core processor for your build, the 8100 would definitely be a better fit than the 7400.

I understand and fully agree with you, the 7400 was just an example, a place holder if you’d say...
Thanks.
