gtx 1060 windforce oc 6gb low performance

Hi All,

I just bought a gtx 1060 windforce oc 6gb to replace my sapphire r9 280x.
I was expecting the results that i saw on the internet, but it's nothing like that.

I have an i7 4790, 16 gig ram ddr3, 500w power supply to go with my gtx 1060.

On the internet i saw the 1060 6gb perform really well in games like rise of the tombraider, the witcher 3, farcry primal and battlefield 1.

I tested all those games but I dont even come close to the fps they show on the benchmarks and on youtube videos.

The witcher 3 dips into the 30-40's in small towns with not even hairworks on.
Battlefield 1 on ultra dips into the 30-40's all the time, while i see people with fps in the 120's online. Same with rise of the tombraider and far cry primal. All on ultra with some settings turned off. Feels like it performance the same as my old r9 280x.

Does anyone know what's going on and how i can test what the problem is?

Did you make sure to download the GeForce experience and the latest drivers?

Reviews have systems with clean installs and optimized fro games. Mostly we cant expect that level of performance but it should be in the ball park. I suggest optimizing your system for games. Advanced system care can clean your reg, shutdown services, and much more to get your system stream lined for games. I dont suggest installing the driver booster and malwarefighter but its up to you.

Select all then unselect disk scan and disk optimization because most windows systems already handle those.

Then run turbo boost to shut down services you dont need. It will ask you about printer services and if you make a mistake just run the turbo boost config to turn them back on.

Yeah i installed the latest drivers and the geforce expierence. So i tested some games with msi afterburner and it turns out that my card doesnt go above 80% or higher and the temperture seems to be stuck at 62 degrees. For example in rise of the tombraider, even on medium settings i cant maintain 60 fps. The percentages of my gpu usage go from 50 to 60 to 80 back to 50 % all the time. Same in the witcher 3. Do anyone knows what could cause this problem?

Could be an issue with left over driver configs. Did you use driver sweeper or DDU to clear out all the video left overs? If not uninstall your video drivers and us DDU then reinstall the drivers.

That isn't good. Your score should be over 300 points higher. Your stuck on average what a rx480 gets.

Okay but i really dont know what to do now. So what is the next step? I'm a little bit stuck :/

i have same issue
my config xeon e5 2643 3.30ghz
asus geforce 1060 OC 6gb
16 gb ram

i thought my cpu was a bottleneck but i checked task manager while i was playng witcher 3 and it was working between 37-53% with a paek of 60%,fps are never 60 and they swing from 45-55 and among three are 47.

in mafia 3 my cpu work 60 - 85 % and fps are 40-50.

i check this forum and another person has same issue with same gpu

i tried ddu for delete old driver but same situation

check your windows power settings. Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings then click change advanced power options. Click on the drop down option and set it to high performance.

@Elbert, so i did a userbechmark, and as it turns out my ram doesn't perform very well. Could this be the problem of the low gpu usage?

By that test you memory is only running at 1333. I suggest going into bios and set them to 1600.

so i changed the 1333 to 2000 mhz. Runs Stable. And i overclocked my graphicscard so i now get around 4350 score in time spy and more than 11000 in firestrike. My games perform better now and the gpu usage is higher than before. So i hope this is good enough for the near future but i still find it weird that the stock clock speed didnt perform as well as i expected.
