So I made a thread some days ago asking if I should get 960 over 1060 because of the big price difference. $240 (2gb) - $380 (1060) and now I am willing to wait a little to get some monies and buy the 1060, but for the PSU, I am going to get a Cooler Master silent pro gold 550w which the PSU master (SR71 something guy said would be fine for 960) and I checked 1060 needs a 400W PSU soooo?

Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 550W
i3 4160 (ill bear with the bottlenecks, will jump to one i7 after a good time)
Zotac 1060 AMP!!!111

Why Silent Pro Gold? limited options.

Solution
SSDs and LEDs are negligible anyway. HDDs are very low power.

If you want to get a general idea about the power of minor components, loom to the fact that there are no heatsinks on these things. Power is energy flow and energy is heat.

Yes 550W will be enough but i would suggest you getting a 80+ Gold certified 650W or 750W psu.

Estimable
Well for one, the Silent Pro Gold, is a Gold rated PSU, which means that the capacitors and the quality of the PSU is really good, rather than bronze or standard rated ones, where they are generally a lot cheaper and the parts are not as good, and obviously, more unreliable and less efficient. And the 550W PSU will be more than enough, but it's better to have more than enough than just enough or not enough.

650 or 750? NO WAY.. A gold certified 550 is MORE than enough for your card.

I have the exact same card and a bronze certified 600W PSU (Yes, I just said no to a 650 then why did I get a 600 myself? Well, I initially bought a GTX 970 and only after getting the 970 did I learn that the GTX 1060 was about to release at the same price at which I bought the 970 and so I returned the 970 and got myself a 1060. Unfortunately, I couldn't return my PSU and opt for a lower capacity one. So, ... there goes) and it's doing great so far!

Why are you talking BS?Better to get a Gold certified 650W or 750W PSU so he dont need to upgrade later, its more future proof and you can easily exceed 550W by adding more components like SSD,HDD or maybe a 2nd GPU. "Unfortunately, I couldn't return my PSU and opt for a lower capacity one" So youre basically saying that you tried to return your PSU to get a cheaper one with less watts? Probably the most dumbest idea ive ever heard.

Lets cut the SLI here, because 1060=no sli and I am less likely to upgrade my GPU then, I'll only jump from i3 to i7 and MIGHT install a SSD, and I suppose case LED lights don't make so much difference. If 550W is more than enough here as you say, I'm really fine with that.

It would be ridiculous to get a 650W or 750W PSU with a system that won't ever surpass 175W while gaming. Really, a good 300W unit would be ideal for his setup, but those (especially ones with PCIe cables) are hard to come by, so a 450W unit is ideal. Such as the CX450M.

@GamesOn: there are better options than the CM Silent Gold Pro. WHat country are you in and what price are you finding this for? I can't even find the CM SIlent Pro Gold 550 online nor can I find a review on it so I'd be more inclined to purchase something that has known quality. But if your options are limited it is fully understandable.

Options ^^ - I checked a full review on this PSU and someone tested both 450 and 550W one, 450W one did a little better than 550W, whoever tested it did complete work on his review tested this unit at different levels.

BS you say? Wow! You might want to get your facts right, mate. Even if you add in extra SSDs, HDDs, and LEDs there is no way that system is going to surpass 550W. And yes, no SLI on the 1060 is precisely the reason to opt for a lower capacity PSU.
