GTX 1070 and i7 6700k average fps on certain games

Hey all, just curious what's the average fps for games like tf2, overwatch with a GTX 1070 and i7 6700k, when I play tf2 I feel like my fps should be higher on max, I get about 250 and it dips in fights to about 100-150 sometimes, I'm not sure if this is okay or not, I know tf2 is on an old engine and it might not run the greatest, and on overwatch I get about 140-160 on max, not sure if that's average but I'd like to know what others are getting, thx in advance

I don't understand posts like this. 250 is more than enough for a game. Also getting 150 in Overwatch is fine as well. Why on earth would you need even higher FPS? Is there any stuttering? Is the game flickering? Or do you have that FPS counter, and wish it could be higher?

Yeah, your Overwatch performance is right on target for an i5/GTX 1070 system at 1080p resolution. Switching to an i7 would maybe add another 15-20FPS to your average & 30-40FPS to your minimums; you'd still probably see some drops, but they wouldn't be as severe.

But...to be honest, that's already some pretty good performance for Overwatch, so you're probably OK.

Thx for the response, but even there my fps is still underperforming for the card and processor I have, I'm not too sure why, I am up-to-date with drivers. I've been playing a bit of the new Friday the 13th game recently and even in the game compared to benchmarks and friends that have a similar computer are getting more fps, I'm not sure what it is. My gpu usually runs around 70-80 degrees while playing games, any idea what could be causing the slight fps decrease?

The high temperature of your GPU is most likely the cause; your GPU is probably throttling back just a bit to try to stay under its max temperature. Check your computer's fans and make sure you've got a good air path through the case; typically you should be pulling in air from the bottom and the front and pushing it out through the top and back.

I have my fans from the front and the top of the computer both intaking air because I have the corsair h100i v2 and the radiator with the fans is hooked up to the top of my computer, to turn it to exhaust I just flip the fans right? And do you think making the two fans exhaust will make up for the performance loss?

It'll probably help with temperatures. If you have a radiator, you should always be pushing or pulling the air through it and then out of the case. You don't want to intake across a radiator because then you're essentially pulling in very hot air, which reduces the overall cooling capabilities of your heatsinks.

Thx for the help, I tried increasing my fan speed on my gpu and I dont think that helped the performance at all, I'm just not sure why I'm getting around more i5 performance rather than i7. Like I've been playing the new Friday the 13th game on max and I just wish I had a steady and high fps as others with the same specs, they get about 15-20fps higher than me, so I'm down at aboout 60-80 and they get about 85+, its just weird.

Did you flip the fans on your radiator? What I meant about pulling in very hot air and reducing the effectiveness of your heatsinks is that if your GPU is trying to cool itself with air that's already hot, it can't transfer as much heat to that air as it could if it were getting cool air; increasing the fan speed probably wouldn't make much of a change if the air inside the case is already that hot.

alright, I'm going to flip the fans tomorrow and see what happens, thanks for the help, I'll let you know the results
