Gtx 1070 core clock downclocks when oc

Im having an issue with my msi gtx 1070 gamming x where i somewhat suffer from massive downclocking.i overclock using the latest version of msi afterburner.

I set my oc to:

100 core voltage
126 max power limit
92c temp limit
80+core clock
450+ vram clock
Voltage sits at 1.80v
My favourite benchmarking game would be project cars.since i can max out everything (even the unsessecery settings)and play at 1440p with auto driving option on
The game is pretty intense and tanks my fps all the way down to 30s-48fps


However i manage to get tempreture around 75-76c whole fans spinning to 70-75%

My clock speed usally sits at 2025 at 60s and 1999mhz minimum when at the 70c+

However after 1 and a half hours of intense torture in project cars,i found that my voltage dropped all the way to 1030-1000 and also hit 800.and my clock speed went from 2000mhz all the way to 1900-1898mhz.wut?

I havent even hit 80c and my temps were hovering around 75-76c.and ive heard numerous of times that i should only worry about temps when they hit 85.


What seems to be happening?im pretty new to gpu oc btw.so any advice will much be appreciated.

85C is a safe limit.
the actual clock depends on many parameters. the card adjust clocks and voltage according to the those parameters.
so the lower the temp, the better the performance. you don't need 1.08v to hit 2000MHz. should be easily achievable with 1.05-1.063v
overclocking pascal cards is fun, but pointless from practical perspective. 50 or even 100MHz are pointless - you get under 5% performance boost in best case.

As temps get higher, the card automatically down clocks to decrease heat output. You might think I'm not heating up that much, why is it downclocking? When starting, only the GPU chips are running hot. After an hour, whole GPU heatsink is saturated with heat and can't take much more. Inside the case is warmer too.

The best you can do is:
1: Using quality thermal paste (5+W/M.K).
2: Installing a good fan (60+CFM) near the GPU. If you prefer silence, use 20-dB. Reference

I lowered my temps by 15-20c. Using good paste with a couple of fans helps a lot. (bought 4 of them on sale)

I would try adjusting settings in the nvidia control panel. IE prefer maximum power, high quality versus quality, 2 pre drawn frames, many many tabs to play around with to see if it makes a difference in there. Also go into change resolution window and make sure it is set at the proper hz, I had a 144hz monitor and low and behold mine was set at 60hz! in there. I agree with Zebarjadi case heat soaks in to your gpu as well. Try turning your case fans up to 100 percent when gaming. And a cooler room helps too. If you have a hot room to start with all the fans blowing in the world won't help you.
