So the 1070 comes out today but only the Founder's Edition.

Are other versions of the card worth waiting for? I'm particularly interested in the MSI one but what do you guys think?

Is it worth the wait?

Yes, definitely wait, the FE cards are just a price gouge on early adopters. Later models will be faster, cheaper and fitted with better coolers. A lot of people have been justifiably been annoyed by the use of such marketing, ie. a name that implies something special about the product, because presumably "reference" doesn't get sales.

Probably wise to wait for AMD@s 480 to come out aswell. Not necessarily in order to buy the 480, but because that should also help shake up the pricing a bit.

wait. dont get a reference card. you will get better performance from custom cards, or even if you dont care for that there will be simple blower style cards released from board partners at the lower msrp.

Also given tha the aftermarket models of 1080 came only a week or two after the reference one, I'd say it might not be much of a wait hopefully. I'm in the same situation myself, build finished, just needs a gpu...

oh and just FYI the aftermarket models aren't cheaper everywhere. At least here in Czech republic they're asking some 30 bucks more for a non-reference model...snakes...one can only hope the prices'll drop eventually

You in Czech, you can order items from neighbouring countries e.g. Germany.
Custom OEM versions are cheaper and better. e.g. KFA2 1080 EXOC for only €669 by mindfactory.de.
Do not grab reference unless you want it bad.
You can even go to Germany for a holiday and get the card there.

im sure they are, but what im saying is the founders edition is sold at its premium price, and nvidia said board partner msrp is a lesser point. no, most of the custom boards will not be at that lesser point, but there will be at least 1 card made at that msrp but its likely to just be a branded blower style card. their custom cooler and/or custom board cards will likely be at or above the price of the founders edition.

Yeah, that makes sense. Non-reference cards are afterall basically better - already overclokced and better cooling. Btw: They just unveiled the prices here for the 1070 and it would seem that I'll be dishing out 80 bucks more for an Asus ROG in comparison to the reference card...what can you do... just wondering whether to buy this one or to opt for a Gigabyte, which is some 35 dollars less... I do usually trust Asus with gpus and gigabyte with Motherboards...

One thing to consider as well would be the size of the card founders is a smaller card than the msi gaming, its not as wide and a little shorter personally I am going MSI gaming Looks great and the cooler looks top quality. MSI cards also have a gaming app that can tell you the chip temp and FPS while in game real cool app.
