GTX 1070 from R9 290X. Worth the upgrade?

I have an i5-4690 with it, and (currently) a 2-monitor 1080p setup which I plan to increase to a 3-monitor setup. (Along with a platform upgrade at some point with an i7)

Would it be worth upgrading to a GTX 1070 from my current R9 290X (Asus 4GB DC2OC version)? Or the only upgrade worthy would be a GTX 1080?

I would check for benchmarks that include a 390 which slightly outperforms a 290x vs the 1070. From what I've seen the rx480 is on par with a 390 so maybe look for benchmarks including those two cards in place of your 290x there are plenty benchmarks like that around, mind you I just looked for 390 vs 1070 and didnt find anything directly comparable.

1070 definite upgrade and uses much less power. I think if you feel the money is worth it then go for it.

At 1080P the 390 and 480 are on par, 480 faster in newer games it seems

I'd say 390 usually has the edge. Close though. And aib 480s will close the gap

That's interesting for sure, with that power draw though, I find it too high of a price for that little in the way of performance.
