I just bought a gtx 1070 and put it in my system. I downloaded all the newest drivers straight from nvidia's website but when I start to play games I noticed the surprisingly low fps. I was averaging 45 fps in battlefield 1 on ultra 1080p. This is my first time with an nvidia graphics card. Is there something im missing? Please help.

Specs:
Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Solution
Wondering, there was talk of a patch for BF1, the original release had major issues with 4thread cpus, including the i5's. The symptoms were high cpu usage upto and including 100,% cpu and low gpu usage, resulting in low fps. Not sure how this patch is released, if it's a steam game, then it's included, but is it possible that you might not have it yet?

Ok, first of all, could you make sure if V-syns is off. It limit gpu usage by holding it around 60fps.

and you should know that BF1 is a i5 killer AAA game. The only thing to do to optimize that GTX 1070 of yours is to put down resolution scale to 42% as shown in link below with GTX 1060

BF1 need 6 thread cpu to optimize it. Here is a link that shows that i5 is bottlenecking gpu higher than GTX 970.

There is your answer, and more newer game will cause bottleneck by i5, such as Mafia 3, watchdogs 2 and Farcry primal. More new games needed more thread. 4 thread era is almost over now.

I5 inst his problem, dude he's using an i5 6600k! I own an i5 4460 and a gtx 1070 AMP! Extreme, my average fps at bf1 maxed out at 125% of resolution scale is 85fps, and yes, bottleneck is a problem for me because sometimes it drops to 40fps, GTX 10xx series is surprisingly shitty and marketing. Are you sure your psu can handle the gtx 1070? if the answer is yes then return your card and get a new one, there's no excuse for such a low fps.

I agree. It shouldn't be that low. OP might have to check in bios wheater all 4 core and thread were on. He might have disable some core thus making bottleneck even further which caused that low fps.

That is incorrect information.

Op are you having this issue in other games as well? You said you were averaging 45fps in bf1. Is this with your old card or your gtx 1070?

I agree that the op hardware should not give that low fps result. But the i5 bottleneck issue is real, although currently still not within lethal bottleneck (dropped fps only when things got hectic). The main reason was that most user still using i5 and they are accepting this reality the hard way by blaming the game maker. Most of those issue was less devestating in i7 starting from i7-2700. i5 still can coupe up to gtx 970 or gtx 1060 but it will start show more against GTX 1070.

@Jake_59: have you checked your bios wheather all core activate?

Op is getting low fps in other games as well, so there is another issue here.

Op what fps are you getting in other games at what settings?
