So im planning on buying a gtx 1070 , but my question is that how much better is it than for example gtx 980/980ti ? I have a gtx 960 atm so the change would be pretty big , but i play a lot of competive so i really need good fps in some games , and i dont feel like the normal 50fps in for example dayz is enough(and yes this is after the 0.60) . So is it worth it ?

Solution
What monitor/s are you using? Pairing a GTX1070 with a 1080 60Hz monitor will be a waste of money, you'll be far better served with a GTX970-and with the recent price cuts that card is now insane value-or you could hold off until the RX480 is released and see what that brings to the table before making a decision.
What are the main system specs? Again, the GTX1070 is a very fast part and needs a strong CPU to keep it fed with data to avoid restrictions.
A 1070 is leaps and bounds ahead of a 960. The performance increase is more than double...it's actually closer to being 3x more powerful if not more... that is for sure.
It only JUST out performs a 980ti.
If you are gaming at 1080p, the 1070 is going to provide a great amount of raw power. You will be runnning over 100fps on pretty well almost every game you throw at it on that resolution.

As a bang for buck alternative, I suggest waiting for AMD's RX 480 release on the 29th of June. They are boasting large overclock potential. At the price point, you could be getting into some very high fps @1080p at the fraction of the cost of a 1070.

That is true, 1070 is even too much for 1080p for most people, but great if you want really high FPS. It is incomparable to 960. As for the GTX980Ti- it offers similar speed to 1070 and might be faster if you do not mind serious overclocking and thus higher power usage/ PSU requirement.
As for the RX480- it should offer speed similar to GTX980 at ~ $250 for a 8GB card, and that is maybe 2/3 of the speed of 1070. The price is very good, so discounts for both new and used old generation cards are expected at around June 29 when RX480 is released.
And I want to mention one more thing which is important. Your choice of graphics card determines capability of either Gsync (nVidia) or Freesync (AMD) if you also buy a monitor with that. These are nice technologies and competitive gamers like them.

Well, Gsync/Freesync would help then.

Im using a 144hz monitor , so i pretty much want the fps to be over 100 in most games

Well i have a i5 4570 i think , a decent noctua cooler, a 650w gold psu, a in many ways normal gigabyte mobo and a 8gb memory that im planning on upgrading to 16gb soon
