Hello,

I've tried to troubleshoot for 3 hours now without finding a solution, so I figured I could ask here for help.

I just bought a MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X for my HP Z820 Workstation. I removed my old card and installed this one with 1x 6 pin and 1x 8 pin. When I booted up, the cards LED's lighted up and the fans started. On my screen I do not get a signal, only black screen.

What I have done:

Checked different cables to screens; HDMI, Display Port, DVI - Same result
Changed settings in bios to Legacy Mode and turned off Safe Boot (System checking if hardware is installed with hardware ID)
Completly removed all video drivers with the tool ( Can't remember the name)
Tried all different PCI ports + changed settings in bios from automaticly detect version to PCIe3

I'm really out of options at this point.

Would appriciate all help :)

EDIT: Also updated BIOS

Regards,
Eric

eric323,

On Passmark Performance Test baselines, there are 29 HP z820's using GTX GPU's, but there are no current listings for the new Pascal GTX series cards. They do work: the highest 3D is GTX 980 at 8643 and the GTX 970 and 780Ti are "popular". The 970 had a good reputation as a video editing card as did the 580.

I would have thought a driver conflict was the problem but the clean driver install should have prevented that.

My only suggestions at this point would be to reinstall the old card and:

1. Post this situation on the HP Users workstation forum in case this is a known issue with z820's in particular.

2. Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset driver. An older BIOS may not know...

3. Reset BIOS to factory default

4. Try the GTX 1070 in another system if possible. It's always possible to get a duff one.

What was your previous GPU and what are the usual programs?

Interesting.

Sorry to bother you when you're having the troubles, but do you find the z820 a very quiet system? Though the GTX 1070 is not working, is it audible?

Cheers,

Solution
Hi Eric
well, the initial post was from 2016, so I hope you already solve this issue.
Anyway: You has to enable UEFI for GFX card on bios for the GTX 1070 to work properly.

I hope this can help anyone else.
