Hi, so I am debating to myself of what graphics card I should pair with a Ryzen 5 1600 and I am planning to game with 1080p at 144hz (as I don't see the point of 1440p). The 1080 is just within my budget as prices have settled down in Australia but I have been worried whether the 1080 would be too overkill for 1080p and I could save money and get a 1070. I do plan on playing games like gta 5, pubg etc. Not much else to say other than what gives the best value on my resolution and refresh rate?

Thanks.

Right, at price so close to 1080, it does not make sense to go for 1070ti.
In this case I would go for 1080 if I could afford it, 1070 otherwise. Like WildCard999 mentioned already, 1080 will last you longer. It will also come handy if you decide to go for higher resolution monitor. I've just recently moved onto 1440p 31 inch monitor, and the extra space on desktop is just killing factor. Playing on the couch with wireless controller is so sweet.

In Australia like I said prices have finally started to go down and currently there is a $100 AU ($80 US) difference between the 1070 and 1080. My budget is $2100 AU ($1700 US) and the 1080 puts it just shy of that limit. A 1070 could also save me some cash but my question still stands.

What about 1070ti? Those cards can make a lot of sense IF you can get one at right price, that is somewhere in the middle between 1070 an 1080 prices.

Prices don't really make sense right now. 1070 Ti's are only $20 less expensive than a 1080 I was looking at, so not really worth it in the long run
