Hi, guys. I've been thinking about getting a used video card that will be capable to give me 75 FPS on ultra settings in 1080p. I choose between 1070 and 1080 since they are widely available in the secondary market. I don't know if 1070 will suffice. On the other hand, I am hesitant if my CPU/PSU can handle a 1080 model. Advice on this would be most helpful :)

My rig:
  • MB - P8Z77V LK
  • CPU - i7 3770k @4.2 GHz with a cooler Zalman CNPS10X Performa+
  • GC - Gigabyte GTX 1060 3 GB
  • RAM - Kingston HyperX 16 GB DDR3-1600 (2x8)
  • PSU - Chieftec CFT-600 600 W

Your PSU should be ok but I would replace that as soon as you can.

As far as what to get, it really depends on your budget and what they are selling for by you. I just sold my 1070 for 175 USD although most were selling for around 200. Aside from eBay be sure to check Facebook Marketplace, the prices on their seem more fair then craigslist and it's easier to contact the seller.

Hello, as @richiestang_78 said, you should replace it cause it's old, and you have been using it for 5 years. So if you have the budget for a powersupply and the 300$~ for the GTX1080, i strongly recommend you to change your PSU. If you don't have enough budget for that, buy a 1070 and a PSU, 1070 at high 1080p give you more than enough fps, so you will be fine. But around 300$ buy a RX5700-RX5700XT or GTX1660Ti. The 1660Ti is more powerfull than the 1070 for 250$ and its new.

Could you elaborate on the PSU issue? Sorry, but I just can't see the point of replacing it. What are the risks?
1660 Ti is not on par with 1080. And according to a few benchmarks, 1070 is very similar to 1660 ti. Why bother then? :) Also, isn't it more prone to bottleneck with an old CPU such as mine?

P.S. I am a bit ignorant about this stuff, so please have mercy on me :D

Hey, i dont think the 1660ti will make any bottleneck with your CPU, also you have warranty, think of that. "The problem" with the power supply is the age, you have been using it for 5 years and you will be stress it more. Also the build quality matters. It's "old",😞 thats it. You could keep it without problems but if it blows up, it's in your own. Back to the GPU upgrade you want, 1660Ti will be fine 144hz high settings, i've tried one and it's good.;) If you got good deals on GTX1080s go for it.
