Hey guys! This year i will be building my very first PC (have been using a macbk pro for gaming for the past 2 yrs gg) , and i really want to use the upcoming gtx 1070 for my gpu. i came up with a list of the pc parts listed below and i will really appreciate if i could get some help completing it or recommendations for better parts. I also want to keep the cost as low as possible and i plan to use it to play games like the division, witcher 3, overwatch. Thanks!!

Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460K
GPU: GTX 1070
Storage: Samsung SSD 950 Pro 256GB + maybe a 1TB HDD
Memory: 8GB
Power Supply: Corsair RMi 750W
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X

Solution
That cpu (I5-4460k) is not compatible with that board (Z170). The I5-4460k is Haswell, and Z170 is Skylake. I think that I5 was only a 4460, was not a K chip (which means it's not overclockable) What is the budget? Color scheme? USD?

Here's a suggested build

Thanks alot for the recommendation! my apologies i didnt know that the cpu and motherboard has to be the same architecture for it to be compatible. my budget is 1800 USD max but preferably 1500. I dun have any plans for any colour skins either. btw will an i5 suffice if i intend to do some youtubing?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6k88TH Here, I tried getting close to your build as possible. As you can see, the video card and the case aren't selected. Just add $379 ($1193) then pick a case of your choice to get your final price! Seems that its lower than your budget! I would throw in a 1080 if I were you. That's if the taxes and shipping don't harm the price to much :)

Not sure if you noticed, but you can actually get 2x8GB of DDR4 2400 for CHEAPER than that.....
OP do you plan on overclocking your components by the way? Need to know that! :)

With your PSU you are paying the extra $25 for software, so no point in that.
8GB of ram with a mid range build is also silly, pay the 10 bucks extra and get 16.
The 950 pro is a high end SSD which doesn't give many benefits for anything but rendering and professional application.
Better to go with the 850 Evo, best value SSD.

The build i've put together is the best you're going to get for your money given that you're overclocking.

This is what I came up with:

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($88.06 @ Amazon)

okay thanks alot! dont think i will consider the 1080 as i feel the 1070 will suffice to play most games at max settings.

Woah did not know i could get the 16gb ram for such a cheap price! btw can i get cheaper parts if i dun plan to overclock the pc? and will it worth it if i buy an i7 instead of upgrading to 16gb ram as i want to do some video editing and recording for youtube.

If you don't overclock the PC that means you can get a MUCH cheaper PC.
This means that you don't need a Z170 motherboard, and you don't need a k series CPU.
If you want to do some video editing and recording, an i7 may well be worth it.
With your RAM dilemma, cutting the size down to 8gb will only save you about $20, and you'll feel bottlenecked by it in newer triple A titles, so its a definite investment, especially in this price range.
I've put together this for you, it'll cost a small amount more for the i7, but its the best I can do with your estimated budget, take a look. :)

I know that you can save $10-15 on the ram, but it's not Mushkin redline, which is about the highest quality ram made. Being that his budget was $1500, and I was under $1250, didn't see that extra $ being a problem.

For gaming an I5 processor is excellent. I5 also works for some video editing. the 970/1070 are very good for most gamers, and are excessive for video editing. The 1080s are for people who want maximum FPS on Ultra HD 4K settings

This is the build I just went with and I'm extremely happy with it.

Yup, everything there is good.
The only thing I would pull you up on is the fact that you said that you wouldn't be overclocking.
There is no point getting a 6600k in that case, it is best to go with an i5 6500, as it offers very similar performance at a much lower price than the CPU you have listed.
I suggested the i7 6700 as it would have had significant speed increases on rendering and video editing, and would have been helpful for multi-tasking without being a worry in the OC department.
If you have already ordered these parts and have still decided not to overclock, please please please don't waste your money on a k series CPU and a Z170 board, you're just throwing money down the drain.
Whatever decision you make, at the end of the day its a functional PC (I hope), its not my money I guess but it doesn't hurt to save where it helps. More money does not always mean more performance.

well i didnt read all the text so sorry it this has been mentioned: but for the money you said you had to spend DO NOT get a ssd. Get a M.2 express or an Intel NVME for your main storage. SSDs are limited by the SATA cable. M.2e and NVME are much faster. If you are gonna store tons of data locally, like Terabytes of movies or games, then get an additional SSD or HDD. CPU and graphics card are dependent on the quality of monitor you will get dont bother with a 1080/i7 above if you arent gonna run a 4k monitor. 1070 and a i5 6600k on a Z170 board with 16g RAM should be good enough for 1080/1440 (2k). There is more to gaming than just the tower part of the rig. Make sure to get a AC router and wifi card as opposed to the older N/G etc router/wifi cards. Also get a monitor with 1ms latency. Google: M.2e, NVME and 1ms monitors if you havent already.

Nearly all TN monitors from the last 5 years or so have 1-2ms latency at the fastest settings.
Its quite a speculative topic, so I suggest read up on TFTCentral's articles about response time and some of their reviews.
A good 144hz 1080p monitor is the XL2411Z, always recommended.
