Why is it that the GTX 1070 is cheaper than the 980 TI when the 1070 is more future proof in comparison to the 980 TI??

Yeah sure at 1080p gaming the TI runs 3-4 FPS faster than the 1070, but that does not matter when both cards already excel in 100+FPS at 1080p, meaning the extra 3-4 FPS the TI puts out wont matter in the end.

With that being said, the 1070 is more bang for your buck in comparison to 980 TI when it comes to 1080p gaming??

So, with all that being said, how come the 1070 is cheaper when ....

1. Its more future proof
2. Its more "Brand New" than the 980 TI
3. The Hardware is much better in comparison to the TI

it's fairly typical honestly. some folks will grab a second GTX 980 TI in hopes of some more horse power while the cards are cheaper then they were (a few months back at least). Point is that demand can keep the older cards cost up even if it under performs compared to the newer card replacing it.

Because nvidia is no longer manufacturing the 980 ti, this always happens the 780 ti was a bit more expensive than the 980 about a month after its release as well. They sell those 980 tis at a high price mainly to people looking to add another to their system for sli. The average consumer should not pick a 980 ti over a 1070.

the gtx 1070s is alittle cheaper for 2 factors to push the new cards towards those using the gtx 980 tis and 970s and the gtx 980tis no longer in production

But you guys would agree that GTX 1070 is more bang for you buck compared to the 980 TI for 1080p gaming?? It also seems much more future proof

Absolutely, the 1070 offers near identical performance to the 980 ti at 1080p while using a lot less power and its cheaper. It should also do better in future dx12 games than the 980 ti if what nvidia says is true as regards to that.

What is the required PSU needed for 1070?? Currently i run a 620WATT in my system with the I7 3770K. Im not looking to overclock, but i am looking to upgrade my PSU as well.

Why you may ask?? Its because its a Bronze rating PSU. Im looking to go to atleast Silver, or Gold if there are cheaper ones running at 620WATT or more if needed for the card

yes you will get more power and vram compared to the gtx 980 ti but in my opinion from my stats seems like I downgraded from 2 gtx 970s in sli to gtx 980 ti and now a gtx 1080 my frame rates were fine in my older games like they were but in gta 5 rise of the tr etc it seems like it dropped drasticly

so no, the gtx 1070 won't be as powerful as the gtx 980 ti the gtx 980 ti seemed to me more powerful as the new gtx 1080 , I don't notice the difference between the 2 1 of the reasons I sli the 970s back in the day the only difference is more vram but slower horse power , i'm really considering to trade my gtx 1080 with a 2 gtx 1070s and run in sli gta 5 and rise of the tomb raider being in the 60 fps ratings with a gtx 1080 isn't all what the hype was about

What psu do you have amke and model? Unless your trying to save penny's on your electrical bill each month I wouldn't concern yourself too much with efficiency, what you want is a psu built with quality parts by a trusted OEM.

Lol what? They are totally different architectures and the 1080 has a smaller die size. A 1080 is certainly not an overcloked 980 ti, where in the world did you hear that? A 980 ti is more comparable to a 1070 in terms of performance, on average the 1070 does a bit better.

That's a seasonic made psu, its not bad at all plenty to power your system. I see no reason for you to upgrade your psu. You could get a more efficient 80 plus gold psu or even better if you want but like I said I doubt it will do much to lower your electricity bill and other than that it wont really do anything.

I just dont want to fry my system or have dips in my system. I want my CPU (I7 3770K) and GPU (GTX 1070) to have enough power to function the way it should without causing any damage to my system (Not Overclocked).

I was just sceptic to the fact its a bronze rating PSU ... and good GPUs require good (Gold) PSUs for it to function correctly and have a reliable system without stressing it out or popping my PSU or fry any other component

That is absolulty not true, all the 80 plus certification proves is that the psu can be 80% efficient with the power it uses, this means explained by this hardware secrets article I linked below "If you have a PC that consumes 250 W and a power supply with 75% efficiency, this means that you are pulling (and paying for) 333 W from the wall. If the same computer had a power supply with 85% efficiency, it would be pulling 294 W from the wall and you would be saving 39 W."

That's all it means, it does not determine the quality of a psu. Having good efficiency is good sign, but there are 80 plus bronze psu's that perform better than some 80plus platinum psu's, sometimes manufactures actually decrease the performance of the power supply by not using certain components in pursuit of better efficiency so they can put an 80plus gold or platinum rating on their psu.

How old is the antec you have? Its a seasonic made psu look them up they are a very trusted manufacturer of psu's. So unless its very old I see no reason why it would not be perfectly stable for your system.

As of today its EXACTLY two years old and did not have ANY issues what so ever. Currently running a GTX 770 4GB

I would have no problem using it for a few more years, it will likely be less stressed with a 1070 than a 770 I do believe the 770 uses more power. Its up to you I don't want to discourage from getting a better psu if want and can afford it. Im just saying that antec neo is a good all around psu and should be fine running your system for at least a few more years.

Agree theres not much point in changing your psu unless you live in a location where electricity is very expensive and you plan to run it all day long. Otherwise you're unlikely to recover the cost of the psu.

I beleive the OP is referencing some various forum/review rumblings that basically said an overclocked GTX 980 TI can perform close to on par with a stock GTX 1080. like this

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/4icr6e/1080_vs_980ti_oc_dont_underestimate_980ti_if/

No not really ... im just after a decent 1080p GPU and Nvidia confirmed that the 980TI only performs 3-4 FPS on avarage better than the 1070.

But those 3-4 FPS dont matter cause both cards would already be performing above 100+FPS at 1080p, so the 1070 is more bang for your buck was what i wager. Plus its more future proof. Nvidia did confirm however that when the 1070 utilizes more than 6GB VRAM, it starts falling behind the 980TI and that the 980TI would out perform the 1070 easily BUT then again, at 1080p, i think you wont utilize even past 5GB VRAM. You will get close to 4GB or even reach 4GB, but i dont think ever past 5GB

Yeah 1070 is just too cheap.Should have been atleast $599.Thing is Nvidia is too generous and have the best interests of gamers in mind. They strive to price their GPUs very low so that everyone and their moms can afford one/s
