I am planning on buying a new graphics card, i im not sure which one to buy.
I was looking at the gtx 1070 strix oc but then I saw that the gtx 1080 windforce oc was the same price.
The gtx 1070 is even faster than the gtx 1080 but the gtx 1080 has other ram type and speed.
I will play 1440p @ 144hz with the card. What card should i buy?

Definitely the GTX 1080 - it will always - and I mean, always - be faster than the GTX 1070. Also, the GTX 1070 wouldn't really cut it for 144 Hz - not saying that the GTX 1080 would, but you'll still get better FPS with the 1080. It's usually best to get the reasonably priced better card rather than the fanciest weaker card. So, yeah, the GTX 1080 will serve you much better.

At the same price(or even a little more!) get the 1080. More headroom and an overall more powerful card.

I know the question was 1070 vs 1080 same price and I totally agree with Shektron but . . .

Look at my profile for my old rig(2600k/1080TI). I seriously could not be happier for a 1440p/144hz/G-Sync match up.

After some OC fine tuning to the 1080TI it will drop to 40-60fps minimum, top in the 200's and honestly average 80-120 in Ultra for just about everything.

Even though my newer rig is totally 4k/60fps I often spend more time with the older rig since that TI gives such amazing 1440p performance.

He's right - the 1080 isn't enough for 1440p 144 Hz - you need the 1080 Ti for that. But honestly even 1080 Ti won't deliver a solid 144, because 1440p 144 Hz is more demanding overall than even 4K 60 Hz. So if you want to play at high refresh rate at 1440p, it's a 1080 Ti, nothing lower.
