Hello just recently purchased a new system cpu: 6700
Ram: 32 gb ddr4
GPU: GTX 1070

How successful in the future will I be if I attempted to run 4k? What is the success rate of 4k on 1070 now I.e. Fps etc.? Thanks in advance.

Solution
We are recommending against 4k until technology catches up with it.

a) There are no Hi-Refresh rate 4k monitors because, though we have had Display Port 1.4 compliant GFX cards now, there are no capable DP1.4 monitors ... there's not even a DP 1.4 cable available that I have seen.

b) If you are an avid gamer who wants to be > 60 fps in their fav games, there is no GFX card that can deliver it. Even twin 1080s in SLI can't manage 60 fps in all the games at 4k in TPUs test suite. As to the 1070 ... refeernce card performance below, AIBs are a bit faster.

Anno 2205 = 36.8 fps
AC Syndicate = 43.2
BF3 = 57
BF4 = 42.1
Witcher 3 = 35.2
WoW = 100.7
BM AK = 48.9
COD Black Ops - 28.9
Crysis 3 = 27.8
Fallout 4 = 58.7
FC Primal = 33.1
GTAV = 38.2
Hitman = 29.3
Just Cause = 40.7
Rainbow 6 Siege = 50.6
RoTR = 32.4

c) Folks generally keep their monitors much longer than their systems. To invest in 4k now, methinks, is a bit scary as once DP 1.4 capable panels arrive, the value of no DP 1.4 panels wll drop in the toilet and be extremely difficult to sell

I agree with most of these, however WoW is probably not on high settings or these are Pre-Legion numbers. I have a 1080 and I struggle getting 60fps on (old Pre-Legion) Ultra settings (AA off) at 1440p all the time (There's a lot more to it than that, Legion zones are much more graphics intensive, number of players around, number of fight effects, etc. Highly populated cities are the worst, Stormwind and Dalaran). In comparison I run BF1 60fps+ no problem. Legion settings you are probably looking more at similar 20-30 fps on Pre-legion Ultra settings (about 7/10 on the graphics slider).

But yeah I don't think LOW 4k looks as good as ULTRA 2k @60fps.

Solution
Those are the numbers obtained in the test at the stated settings on the day of publication (Jun 28th, 2016)

All video card results are obtained on this exact system with exactly the same configuration.
All games are set to their highest quality setting unless indicated otherwise.
AA and AF are applied via in-game settings, not via the driver's control panel.

Each game is tested at these screen resolutions:

1600x900: Common resolution for most smaller flatscreens and laptops today (17" - 19").
1920x1080: Most common widescreen resolution for larger displays (22" - 26").
2560x1440: Highest possible 16:9 resolution for commonly available displays (27"-32").
3840x2160: 4K Ultra HD resolution, available on the latest high-end monitors.

We tested the game in DirectX 11 mode with details set to "Ultra".

Yeah that's Pre-Legion, its a huge difference.
