I'm planning to buy GTX 1070 ti for my 1st gaming PC build, but the monitor i'm going to buy has 60Hz refresh rate with resolution 1920x1080 so i can't go much higher than this. That build will be used for 1080p gaming.

I Googled around many sites, then found many people saying that 1070 ti is pretty overkill for 60Hz monitor and its better to be used with 144hz one at 1080p or even 1440p, otherwise for 60hz monitor 1060 is good.

However, i have a different perspective, my intention is to get a GPU that lasts much longer, 1060 is suitable for now yes, but next years with very demanding games, it will be hard to reach 60 fps in gaming while 1070 ti is more than enough for now but later it will be nice and suitable for 60 fps.

Well guys, based on my perspective, is it good to go with 1070 ti paired with 60Hz monitor ??

Usable lifetime on anything gaming related like a gpu is iffy. 5 years ago, the gtx970 was best value, being only a little behind the 980, and both were OK for 1440p. But games back then were much simpler in intensity, so much so that by today's standards a gtx970 can barely hold its own vrs a gtx1060.

My gtx970 gets solid 300 fps at ultra settings in cs:go, yeah I'd consider that overkill. I have over 130 heavy graphics mods in skyrim, gets a solid 60fps at ultra. Witcher 3 I'd be looking at closer to 30fps.

So what's the game? Is a 1070ti overkill? For cs:go, absolutely overkill by a long shot. For Witcher 3, it's about right. I can't wait till the end of the year and the release of Mechwarrior Mercs, but scared that my old gtx970...

I will get core i5 8400 for my current build, that should produce less bottleneck than 1060, actually it shouldn't produce any kind of bottlenecks even with 1060, but its better pair with 1070 ti than 1060.

I used both a GTX 1080 and GTX 1080Ti at 1080P 60Hz and they worked fine for gaming, just turn off V-SYNC and let it go.

I wouldn't get a GTX 1070Ti however, would go with the GTX 1080, the GTX 1070Ti will never be a GTX 1080.

With your plans that would actually be better in the long run.

I would however try and get a monitor with a faster refresh rate, a gaming monitor with at least a 75Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time.

1070ti overkill? Maybe for many games now, but tomorrow is a different story and there's no telling exactly what will happen. Can't read the future, only guess.

Monitor prices are pretty expensive here in my country, that 60Hz monitor is the only i can afford but it has also 1ms response time, in case if you care here you're its model: "Samsung S24D330H".

About GTX 1070 ti vs GTX 1080 the real difference between both GPUs is indeed small, i have checked many benchmarks and videos about both, Max was 7 fps i think. Also it costs here about 100$ more in my country (2000 by my local currency) so its really no worth it, even if if can afford it, because you will not get a big difference.

Anyways thanks for your reply :)

Well, some of the new games expected to launch until the end of this year will demand GTX 1070, however i think it can still be running amazing with 1060, something like system requirements announced about GTA VI, Shadow of the tomb raider, and maybe for AC Odyssey cuz last AC games like unity, syndicate, origins were poorly-optimized. (check game debate for system requirements of these games).

For the current time and since i didn't have any gaming since like 4 years, i wanna try almost every game that i missed to play, like COD series, BattleField Series, GTA IV and V, AC series, Witcher 3, Rise of the tomb rider, Watch Dogs 1,2, Far Cry Series....etc

I agree about what you said that 1070 ti overkill for many games now, here i would like to ask you: of course i will turn on v-sync for a fixed 60 FPS, will i get some stutters or input lag ?? and if yes, how can i combat them ? the question by other means: is there anything to worry about or troubles i will face during gaming if i got 1070 ti with that 60hz monitor?

My expected build with core i5 8400, GTX 1070 ti, RAM 16GB(2x8GB)2666, should give me smooth gaming with no troubles but that 60hz is the real problem, what do you think??

Vsync and it's varients like active vsync that nvidia uses are designed to combat screen tearing. Some use it, some don't, some don't need it, some do. I personally don't use it on anything, but I also have games where I can set a max fps level if I choose too, which some I do or I'd be looking at 300+ fps, so I cap them at @90-120.

You'll really only need to mess with vsync if there's an issue, it's really not an automatic thing and can make game play worse by the introduction of stuttering.
