I'm heading off to college soon and I'll be leaving my gaming desktop at home. I am looking to buy a new laptop, however. I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15 2 in 1 which has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports (4 lanes of PCIe Gen 3).

I've seen external GPU's that plug into TB3 ports but I don't want to spend money on one and I already have a GTX 1070 in my desktop. Thus, my question is:

Is it possible to take the GTX 1070 out of my desktop, and plug it into the TB3 port of my laptop (via some sort of adapter) and use it for gaming?

Well, in order to do that, you're going to need a graphics card dock/box which come bundled with a PSU and a slot to drop in your GPU of choice. Adapters, no, I wouldn't suggest that. Before you spend any money on a dock, I'd suggest that you invest in a laptop that is capable of gaming. A $1300 budget will net you a GTX1060 equipped laptop.

If you're yet interested in going for the 2 in 1, then I'd suggest you scope out it's gaming prowess and then see if it's lackluster. Following that you can look at investing in that dock.
