FPS Drop - GPU Usage spikes with GTX 1080

Hello,

https://imgur.com/xw5Eb0j

First of all, let me tell you what I have tried to solve the issue.

-Reset Windows 10
-Reinstall Windows 10 on SSD
-Change all Ctrl Panel and Win 10 setting for max performance (including power plan)
-Update Nvidia drivers ... - Reinstall previous drivers
-Overclock GPU - But not CPU
-Change all game to low settings but keeping res. at 2560x1440
-Changing the GPU position in mobo PCI
-Updating BIOS - Reset BIOS
-Scan System for Virus.
-Cleaning PC - Adding thermal paste on CPU

The problem:

Sometimes I run Kombustor or Valley for Hours and get consistent min 70 to max 230 FPS.
And other days these two programmes start and run at 120fps than drop to 20fps (up and down..) after some time. Even with any games that I own, It starts with good fps then 30-40 minutes later drops to 20 to 6fps. I have the task manager on performance and afterburn always open on the second monitor. And What I see is that the GPU usage and power usage is unstable going from very low to very high in a very short period of time and GPU temp never goes higher than 75C*. CPU is also low on temps and Usage.

Specs:

3TB HHD
Windows 10 - SanDisk SSD PLUS 240 GB SATA III
MSI Z170A GAMING M5
Intel Core i7 6700K Processor 4 GHz, 4 Core, 8 Threads, 8 MB cache
Corsair Hydro Series H115i 280 mm
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 2400 MHz
ASUS PCE-AC88 AC3100 Dual-Band Wi-Fi PCIe Adapter
MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X 8GB GDDR5X
PSU - CX 750M

Can Someone tell what a Normal GPU usage should behave while gaming?

If you are a Genius and can help me I would be grateful for any suggestions.
If you had the same or similar problem let me know how you fixed it.

Thanks.

Solution
Can Someone tell what a Normal GPU usage should behave while gaming?
There is no "normal GPU usage" . It is going to fluctuate, and that is normal. You mentioned running Valley. That should be as close to a reproducible scenario as you are going to get. Simply because if you are running Valley with the same exact overclock without any other influence it should be nearly the same mean FPS.

But there are other things to consider. For example was the temperature the same in the room. Were there any other applications running at the same time. Were any of the components overheating.

Now with that in mind, and you substitute the game you were talking about and the variable of your game inputs. I think you can see how many...

Solution
As to what would cause the FPS changes that you mentioned.
I can guess either that there were different levels of programs running that would affect the the relative CPU % and MEMORY % usage or there was some thermal throttling going on.

But I'm guessing here.

Hello Terry, I would like to add up that I have of course tried to overclock the GPU only to try and fix the issue.

I have also mentioned on the post that the Temps of GPU/CPU is kept low, and in the original post which is on my Steam community I mentioned that I have even tried to turn off the heater and open all windows to lower the room temp so that maybe it will help the Mobo to cool and have even lower CPU/GPU temp but I did not think I should mention it.

I try to close/end-all unnecessary apps/windows/software in the background every time I launch a game.
What I would also like to add is that the issue has been presenting itself only a few weeks ago before I could watch a stream or listen to Spotify (do other stuff on the second monitor) while gaming and there would be absolutely no problem.

Thank for making me understand that GPU usage is not always supposed to be high.
But If you look at the image from the link you would know that something is very wrong.
But I don't know what is?

Thanks.

Yep I have tried to scan with Malware and my purchased Anti Virus software, the pc is clean.

I also reinstalled windows on SSD so both SSD/HHD were wiped clean.

I know updates can be faulty I have used previous update version before reinstalling Win10 and the problem was still there so I reinstalled it lastest Update. Same goes for Nvidia Drives

I am aware that many people have similar problems I have actually search most of the titles that looked like mine and are shown as solved, but I did not find a fix for my case so I thought of making my own post hoping for a solution.

Hello, terry4536 I am new to forums in general and I don't know how long it takes for people to reply to my post why you the only one that tried to help me, how long does it usually takes for people to get involved.

If anyone else reads this and knows how to help me please do.
