Hello guys

Im waiting for the new gtx 1080 to come out and buy it,but i saw there is a 8 pin power connector on it.
i've had many graphics cards in the past wich i just could place in and out but i never had like this 4-6-8 pin power connector.
do you guys know if every pc got it?i got a fairly new pc.
This may sound very stupid but i really don't know this thing so i thought maybe you guys would know and the let me know what to do.

already thanks gr steven101

Any graphics card that requires more than 75W will have an auxiliary power connector.
For the GeForce 700 series that was GTX 760 and above, for the 900 series that was GTX 950 and above (with some low power GTX 950 cards that did not require it).
Suitable power supplies will have 6 or 8 pin PCI-E power connectors. If not, they likely don't have the +12V rating to power these cards anyway.

Well i just opened my case and i could not tell what psu i had, even checked the serial number.
But i watched in the pc and saw only a 2 pin and a 6 pin connector unplugged
i took a photo maybe you guys can see what i got.

You can just buy a new PSU with your 1080. No big deal. Easy to swap out the old one. The new one will be compatible with your current PC.

EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $65 after $15 MIR. And you're set.

i've been looking around the web, and is it also a posibility that i can plug in the 6 and 2 pin into the gtx 1080?
so 1, 6 pin and the other 1, 2 pin makes 8 pin?

on most power supplys you have atleast two 6+2 pin cables, those are 8 pin cables as well. for instance lets say your graphics card has a six pin power connector, you could use your 6+2pin cable and bend the extra 2 off to the side and plug it in, or if your graphics card has a 8 pin connector, you could put the 6+2pin cable together keeping the extra 2 inline with the 6 and plug them all in as a 8 pin. make sense? also i vote for the evga power supply mentioned above as well.

disagree with the need 650W statement, needing 650 has been the case since the 8800GTX which pulled 250W, the 1080 is using 175W, 200ish when OC'd. a good 550w and upward would be fine, but this is not a good one. However you can very frequently get 650's for the same or similar price as a 550W.

already many thanks for your answers guys really appreciate it :)

Hi Guys Hopefully this thread is not too old to jump in with a question. I actually have the EVGA Supernova and a GTX 1080 card but the power connectors which come with the EVGA do not connect the two. Steven101 did you run into this issue? How did you get around it?

Much thanks !

Hi guys - I have a GTX 1080 and EVGA powersource, but the EVGA does not come with the proper connectors to join the two up, I was wondering if I am just missing something here? Steven101 did you run into issues connecting the two with cables provided? Thanks for any help.

It'll be 6 plus 2 pins probably, the 8 pin is probably for the mobo. Do not force it, it'll fit easily if it's right.

Thanks 13thMonkey, I will give that a shot. Appreciate the quick reply.
