GTX 1080 and 8 pins.

I know this sounds like the common question out there and kinda noob but believe me, it is quite a different question. I searched the internet but nothing seems to hit the one I need answered.

So I ordered MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X and will arrive in the next few days, I looked up about the pins and it worries me a little bit. it has 6 pins + 8 pins.
[Q1] is it fine if I use only one of those? either 6 or 8 pins. or do I have to use both?

I have no problem for 6 pins because my current gpu uses two 6 pins. gtx 760.
[Q2] I looked for my spare cables and I found 8 pins on both end? will this work? I believe it is the same cable to power the CPU. I heard that some uses 6(+2) and 6 pins on the other end since the extra 2 is for grounding.

question 2 is a very stupid question, I just opened my case and I saw the (+2) extra pins which I always ignore whenever I see it.

The Seasonic M12II Bronze 750w has the following connectors:

1 x 20 / 24P Main Power
1 x EPS12V / ATX12V (8P / 4P)
1 x EPS 12V (8P)
4 x PCI-E (6P / 8P)
8 x SATA
5 x Peripheral (4P)
2 X FDD (4P)

You should have the correct cables for your graphics card.

The pin pitch and keying pattern on EPS12 and 8-pin PCIe power are different, you cannot plug one in the other.

Since the only reason for the extra two pins on the 8-pin PCIe connector is to identify cables capable of carrying 150+W, there is no problem with a PSU manufacturer choosing to bridge the extra pins to existing ground wires instead of having those two extra grounds go all the way to the PSU. Of course, the wiring has to be thick enough and the PSU needs to be good enough to actually deliver that power.

Decent quality modular PSUs will usually come with at least one 6+2 cable or cables with both a 6 pin and 8 pin connectors on it.
