Hi, i recently bought an ASUS GTX 1080 Strix and when i play certain games like CS:GO, Prop Hunt, or any title that only uses 12-24% of my GPU i get miniature fan spikes from 0-944 RPMs or 0-1015 RPMs etc. I also tried to set my GPU fan curve and i had it at 10% usage for when it was lower than 52 degrees celcius and it did the same thing. The fan RPMs are fine if i just have them at 40% or are playing any other game which uses more of my GPU like the Witcher 3, GTA V, Skyrim, etc. So is this normal? The spikes are like every second and i've returned a gtx 1080 FE for having spikes no matter what the GPU usage. Thanks!!

your card has a feature that turn off the fans when the card is idling or below 60c...so when you put a light load on it, the fans will turn on and off to keep the card running bellow 60c...if you load a demanding games, the fan will be on...if you browse the web, the fans will be off...if you do something in between that will load the GPU to 20 or 30%...the fans will go on and off...hope this help!

Dude thank you so much didnt wanna return another 1080 lmao

But it does it like even when the card is idle and at 10% fan usage...btw lol is THAT normal??

monitor the temps with MSI afterburner or other software and see how high it goes...the card might have to spin the fans some to keep in normal safe temp zone..

OK so i did that already and when the card is 57 degrees celcius it does it...and its suppose to be on at like 10% default setting ( no fan curve ) and i looked at the fans themselves and they arent turning off when they spike down to zero rpms so is it a bad sensor??

no it's normal...the fans will not turn at 10% speed...they will turn at maybe 20 or 30% depending on the card...and 55c to 60c is where you'll see them start spinning a bit from time to time...it's all good man.

Thanks...lol
