Hello guys,
so im looking to get a gtx 1080 founders edition but my friend bought a 980 FE
and the temperature was hitting almost 90's
and i dont want my 1080 also to hit 90 so i wanna ask is there a different between a 1080 FE and 980 FE ?
and should i get the 1080 FE ? because i dont have enough money go go with 2 fans 1080 cuz in my country everything is expensive like the 1080 ti's cost between 1400- 1900$ thx

That's about it. I don't know about maximum but adjusting the fan curve would be my first move.

Most founders edition graphics cards get pretty hot because they are single fan. So gtx 1080 will most likely be the same. But if it hits 90C it shouldn't be a problem, but not higher.

There is a world of difference between the 980 and the 1080. The "engine"(aka GPU) is completely different. To be blear there are also differences between An Asus 1080 and a EVGA 1080. Some cards are OC'd and others aren't. Some have 1 tiny blower style fan like that Fe and others like the Asus Strix 1080 will have 3 fans. Their individual cooling solutions will also vary. Many other differences, there are.

I disagree with Wesley. While GFX crds do usually get hotter than CPUs 90 is a clear sign that something is wrong. GFX cards should stay below 80C. Some are fine with them in the 80s. My EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid is a different story. It has incredibly effective cooling meaning it's usually in the 30s or 40s when gaming. I owned the 970FTW from EVGA that stayed in the 60s while gaming. Take a look over here for more information about the Nvidia 1080 Founders Edition.

Consider GPU Boost 3.0. It's a dual edged sword. It auto-overclocks the GPU inside up to safe limits implemented by Nvidia. it will also down-clock it should the temp. or voltages get too high. Similar but so very different, thermal throttling will also down-clock the card should it get too warm. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/601318-gtx-1080-founders-edtion-throttling-discussed/. Shows known issues with the 1080 FE.

Personally I recommend keeping temps. below 80c. Thermal throttling starts at 82c. Throttling means less performance and as you stated, power. Having plenty of air going through your case will help. Thermal shutdown happens at 95C.

and how can i keep it under the 90 without turning off the pc ?
is there like a way to keep it under 90? and if yes how what should i do otherthan keeping the fans on maximum speed/using air conditioner.
