Hello everyone, I'm thinking of upgrading my pc since it just can't handle 1440p at 75hz anymore, I currently have a Gtx 1070, a oc'Ed i5-7600k to 4.6ghz, and 16 gb of ram, if I upgraded to a gtx 1080 (Gpu prices are almost normal now) would my current cpu bottleneck it? I was thinking of upgrading my cpu to a i5-8600k or me gpu to a gtx 1080 but it seems like a gpu would give me a bigger boost in performance, right? I always play at 1440p and try to get my settings as high as possible.
Thank you.

Yea, for some reason there are certain games where I get like, 60% of the fps I normally get, like in far cry 5, I overclocked it to 4.6 without touching the voltage. What about for the future? Would a gtx 1080 or a i5-8600k serve me better in the future? I also might just get a 1070ti instead.

i5 8th gen is also already starting to see it's limits. Better go for ryzen 5 2600x or i7 8700 if you want your video card to be used to the maximum potential

The thing is, I don't plan to go over 1440p 75hz, and I don't think a i7 would be needed for that

FC5 is much more demanding than any other previous iteration. If you see the system requirements, they jumped from i5 1st gen. in FC4 to i7 4th gen. in FC5. Thats a big jump right there.
1070 is not your typical 1440p/75hz card either, if you are aiming ultra across most games. That said, i5 quad cores have reached their limitations in gaming. Hence why Intel has increased their core count across their mainstream platform. But going from i5 7th gen. to 8th gen. wont give you that much of a performance boost as you might think.

So what cpu and gpu would you recommend for a stable 75fps at ultra/high settings and 1440p?

But a i7 seems like overkill for 1440p 75hz, especially because more of the load will be put on the graphics card. Do you think a i5-8600k will give me a stable 75fps at 1440p ultra/high settings with a a gtx 1080 or 1070ti?
