GTX 1080 LED removal.

Is it OK to unplug the red/black-wire plug connecting the GPU to the LED lights illuminating the green GEFORCE GTX on the case.
I feel It is a waste of power, a source of heat, and I dislike the light coming from my case (sorry RGB fanboys).
Will unpuging this wire and removing the lights negatively affect the GPU (is something else controlled on this)? Or is it an acceptable modifications?

Download the led visualizer software from the nvidia site and you can disable the led via software
