GTX 1080 Power Requirements?

Hello, I'm looking to buy the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 DT Gaming off B&H Photo and Video, or item number #EV8GP46684KR, on sale for 525.89 US dollars for playing max settings at 1440p. But, currently I've a Seasonic s12ii 520 watts psu, will that be enough temporarily power the GTX 1080 for like for two to two and a half month? I had the Seasonic s12ii 520 watts for the entirely of my five years ivy bridge system and went through about four graphics cards without any overclock: His ICEQ AMD 7850 2gb, gtx 660 2gb( I'd purchased a replacement off EBAY, since my AMD 7850 2gb wouldn't install early Omega drivers rather I removed drivers with Display Drivers Uninstaller or reinstalled Windows 7 and reinstall them), GTX 960 4gb and my GPU, GTX 1060 6GB,( both the GTX 960 and 660 trailed in 1080p gaming like Lawbreakers and many other titles) I recently about a week at Newegg.com at 269.99 after mail in rebate.Later on I'll upgrade to EVGA G2, G3 or RM 650 to 800 watts psu for extremely sufficient power around online sales like Cyber Monday, Black Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas or next time Pcpartpicker.com list a price drop. And by the way, I won't be overclocking my GTX 1080 at all.

TDP is 180W and 500W PSU is recommended. Seasonic is very reliable. What CPU do you have? Any OCing? Cooler?

Sorry for the bad English. With the psu I currently have, what graphic card can't I run?

If you have some huge TDP CPU with crazy OCing, 520 may not be enough. 1080ti is out of the question.

Thank You. I've a i7 3770k at stock with hyper 212 evo and Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. I don't usually keep psu after five years or more than four graphic card swaps.

Instead of starting a new forum or starting through them, one quick question: Since the Seasonic S12ii 520 watts have one eight pin and one six pin pci-e cable and GTX 1080 requires two eight pin adapter is wise to use an 8 pin adapter on the graphic card temporarily?

No, it would not be smart at all.

The 520W min on the GTX 1080 is for the reference design (180W), the Custom cards pull more (215W+), the reason for the 2X 8 Pin power connectors.

My recommendation is to get a new PSU now with the GPU as you really don't need an 800W PSU. Something like a Seasonic Focus 550W to 650W would be plenty. And some of them have nice rebates now going on.

Sorry, both of you are right, Vapour and Jankerson. Before purchasing that GTX 1080 FTW2 DT Gaming at B&H Photo and Video, I shouldn't risk it with an adapter since its a major safety with the adapter messing up, power supply not able to keep sufficient watts and etc. It looks like I'll be pulling out a credit card for a EVGA G3 750 watts psu, so if the GTX 1080 isn't sufficient enough for 1440p gaming then I can switch for 1080 ti or most likely Volta successor to the GTX 1080 ti.
