Hi all,

So I bought a second hand gigabyte GTX 1080 8GB OC turbo, the person selling said he wasn't sure about the condition of the card as it was his brothers.

I plugged in my system and at windows logo I noticed purple lines all over the display, it would then black screen and shut off,

I DDU'ed my system and reinstalled the drivers which then allowed me to access Windows but with green lines flickering but i can manage to use the system.

I disabled the device in device manager which now allows me to take the green lines and flickering off and have a constant picture but only 800x600 resolution which I'm using at this moment.

I opened GUP-Z And it shows that my memory is 0mb.

Now I have tried flashing the BIOS with NVflash but gives me:

"Device:0000:02:00:00=10DE:05B1:10DE:C55E P2P BRIDGE Port 00 Upstream GPU
ERROR: The PCI BAR assignment for the processed device is invalid.
Please check with NVIDIA web site for possible SBIOS Setup setting
to fit with the processed device "

I also tried the nvflashpatched version and tried the -a command and gives me:

"NVIDIA display adapters present in system:
NOTE: Unconfigured display adapter found, device not accessible:
BR04 (05B1h) (10DE,05B1,10DE,C55E) H:--:NRM S:00,B:02,D:00,F:00

<0> GeForce GTX 1080 (10DE,1B80,1458,3730) H:03:SP0 S:00,B:04,D:00,F:00 "

I tried installing NVidia drivers on top but it just restarts and gives me the purple lines with no signal so i have to move the card to another PCIE slot and start all over.

I don't know what has be done to this gpu before buying it,

Any help on this?

Thanks!

Btw I just experienced a new symptom with the card, I was using it to upload the images at 800x600 boots up normal but then after a while the fan rev’ed up like super fast making a lot of noise. I shut down the whole thing.

also any chance a gpu like this can make damages to my system? I had been using 2 x gtx 750 Ti cards and I’ve noticed they are starting to give me video problems.

you are the victim of a scam.

stop using the 1080, and just use your old gpu.
I mean I did agree to take a risk on it, I knew it was risky and the story didn’t add up, I also asked him if I could get my money back if it didn’t work before completing the transaction and he said no.
So I passed by all the red flags and technically just scammed myself to see if I could get lucky with the gpu.

The card might still be fixable if it is not GPU die that failed. But you need a good repair shop and there is no way to tell if that makes sense cost wise at this point. Obviously at this state the card is as good as dead, no point of using it.
Well, the memory is what’s failing to load. Im here trying to repair it, I’ve gone around many obstacles but is there anything else to try how can I flash it when is not accesible?

Who knows, it would need a proper diagnosis.
Could be a reflow, but thats a long shot on a good day.
Could be a bad memory controller, or a short somewhere, or any of the smaller components as well. Its not something Im knowledgeable enough to ID and fix.

Its not like the card is going to get any worse than already broken, but I personally wouldnt take it upon myself when it comes to hardware repairs like that.

Super dead?..
Sounds like it to me at least.

But... why?

@leblanc

sadly, things like this can happen. It's a life lesson for you to be more careful next time.

and if we try to look at this a little more positively, it is still fortunate that only 130cad was taken by the scammer and not a larger amount.
