GTX 1080 SLI or 48" 4K TV?

Extra info:
1) Choosing 4K TV means that I will only buy 1 GTX 1080 instead of 2 (Higher settings are better, but I don't mind turning down settings).
2) The 4K TV is at 60Hz, but it supports 1080p @120Hz.
3) Choosing GTX 1080 SLI means that I will be using a 27" 4K IPS monitor that doesn't support 1080p @ 120Hz (I've left the 1080p realm).
4) I know that the second you read the title, most of you will think "Go with a 1440p 144Hz monitor instead".
Here are the reasons why I choose 4K TV over 1440p monitor: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3137469/monitor-hdtv-gaming.html
5) I do gaming and productivity (more to gaming)
6) I will use either display to watch TV as well.
I'm torn between these two. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Solution
1080 sli is overkill for 4k .unless you consider buying a 8k monitor in the future. With single 1080 you get 50fps at max setting at 4k. I prefer monitors than the tv because it has higher refresh time generally 2ms than the tv around 5ms and also support g-syn and v-sun. I would go either fo single 1080 and 4k tv 40" or single 1080 and 32" 4k monitor.if you find one. I wouldn't consider two way sli 1080 for 4k. Get single 1080 and the 4k tv. So you may watch movies as you said.but I prefer monitor.
If you've left the 1080p realm, I'd say just go with 1080 SLI with the 27" monitor. TVs aren't really the best for gaming, and quite honestly even the 1080 cannot run high end games such as The Witcher 3 and GTAV on full max settings with 60FPS stability. Better to have more power to draw on to get more frames out of the 4K res you're looking to enjoy.

Agreed. I think it's better to buy a 1080 Ti instead of 2 1080s. I would easily buy a 4K monitor if it wasn't for one problem (and one disadvantage):
1) Windows scaling is terrible at high PPI displays, which is bad for editors like me.
{2) You're stuck with 60Hz, which is bad for gamers who used to enjoy 120Hz like me.}
About input lag, it won't bother me much. In fact, it's not that bad (about 35ms compared to monitor's 10-15ms average). I can and will adapt to it soon. About variable refresh rate technology, yes it's useful, but for gaming only. I don't want to pay $200-$300 more just for something that's useful for gaming only. Thanks for your opinion though!

😀 no problem. But i have a question for you. Since you knew you would go for tv and sli 1080s . Why you asked for opinions ?by the way I didn't know that you are not doing all this only for gaming. If you don't care about the disadvantages of the tv. The your way is open to go for it.

You're right. I won't be trading all the perfection of that 4K TV just for input lag. Input lag is just for gaming. I do more than gaming. In fact, I watch TV shows, movies, and listen to songs more than I game. I can't afford 2 1080s AND the 4K TV at once, but I can afford a 1080 Ti and the 4K TV.

Alright ,then go for it! Wait until the 1080ti comes out ,probably in the next summer , and do as you said. 😀
