Hello, I recently took a risk and upgraded my gtx 1060 3gb to refurbished gtx 1080. For first few weeks it was working flawlessly but yesterday I had connected my pc to tv and I was playing some grid autosport in split screen. After some time the game froze with green artefacts on screen. After rebooting system I was stuck on very low res which was almost impossible to read, I was able to change it to 800x600 but afterwards I cant change it any more. I attempted to reinstall drivers but that didn't really solve the case. At one point It finally booted in 1080p but I had some light blue artefacts on screen and for deus ex was running at around 5 fps in loading screen. In device manager it stated that the pc needs a restart for the 1080 to work properly but after that im back on square one. And now Im having problems to even get to windows log in screen. Is the gpu dead or is it fault with my drivers or something else?

My specs:
Motherboard: MSi Z370 GAMING M5
Cpu: i5 8600k
Gpu: gainward gtx 1080 Phoenix glh
Ram: 2x8Gb 2133
PSU: Corsair TX-M Series 650W
Storage:1x 1tb hdd, 1x 120gb patriot ssd(boot drive) and 1x 500gb patriot ssd

Thanks for any help!

Edit: gpu sometimes boots as usual and Im able to get in bios but now quite often it seems to boot a bit later and I end up being stuck on black screen

Tried other monitor and cable, as well as tried swaping to another pci cable for psu. Still same thing. Also last time when attemting to install drivers, windows just crashed.
Seems like my last options are taking apart the card to see whats going on. Maybe the company did some sort of a major screw up and I might have a chance for a refund but I doubt it. But I will try to visit a friend and try placing my gpu in his rig. Last hope I guess is oven method :/
Before you proceed do find out the time frame of return policy for that graphics card.
After doing a bit of checking it seems that my store isn't giving any warranty for this card and the 14 day return policy is gone as i recently got back from a trip. Seems like I might be stuck with a 300€ paperweight

Go to control panel and uninstall the nvidia drivers again. Then go to this site and remove all the driver remnants:
https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
After that reinstall the latest drivers.

If the issue persists after that:
  1. Take the GTX 1080 out of the system and reinstall the GTX 1060 to see if the issue replicates.
  2. Then take the GTX 1060 back out and reinstall the GTX 1080.
The results from each step will give us troubleshooting info for diagnosis.

Reinstalling drivers didn't change a thing and my 1060 worked fine so the problem is with the 1080. Attempted to reset pc while on 1060 and then inserting the 1080. All was fine until i installed drivers, blue artifacts appeared again and now yet again im stuck on black screen on reboot. The card seems to power on and then shut off(by looking at the big rgb light on fan) and after a while it turns on and i just get a black screen

Also try a different cable. I know the one you used works and works fine with the 1060, but i've seen the weirdest things. My goal is to hopefully get the card to work so you didn't waste your money 🙁
Yeah, thank you for any input. When I will free up, I will try different slot and cable. Slot could be tought as my case is pretty small while 1080 is big chunky beast but changing case would be lot less expensive. Could it be a somewhat faulty psu due to card powering on and then off? By caulculations it should be enough and i specifically chose a high tier psu but the second cable was sitting in a akward angle due to case.

Anything is possible. That's why troubleshooting via process of elimination is so effective. Didn't you try another slot already? I wouldn't do that, as the GTX 1060 doesn't replicate the issue.
